Maybe they'd quit selling these poor puppy mill dogs...if they had no customers for them.

Its hard for me to believe that people are stupid enough to purchase a puppy from a pet store. Its not exactly secret information that these puppies come from mills.

Adopt, don't shop. The shelters vet their animals before adopting them out.

Rescue the dogs that need homes. That is the BEST way to get a dog. But if one has to have a pure breed they should find a reputable breeder, and NOT a pet store.

Considering the deplorable conditions those pet store puppies come from, I am surprised this sort of thing hasn't happened before......

I will take my fully vetted and vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped shelter or rescue dogs for probably 1/10th of the price over a poorly bred and inbred puppymill puppy every day of the week and twice on Sunday......

No but some people don't care unfortunately. They don't care that the parents of these adorable puppies are languishing in a puppy mill for their entire lives with no decent human interaction. They want a specific breed not realizing they are not getting a healthy, show quality puppy from a pet store, however they ARE paying show quality prices. An acquaintance bought a Yorkie from a "breeder" on Craigslist. Spent quite a bit on that dog and it is the strangest looking Yorkie I've ever seen. These buyers seem to think because the puppy is AKC registered that it actually means something.

I dont know if this thread is only to bash pet stores but that bacteria is one of the most common causes of food poisoning. Chickens, cows, cats, dogs and other animals all have that bacteria in their digestive tract. Undercooked poultry, raw milk, produce in soil with manure added are the most common causes of this disease in humans. Lets tell the whole story if we want to protect people from getting sick
