I live in Phoenix where I can wear sandals or flip flops about 10 and a half months of the year (all except for usually December and part of January), then I switch to boots. But I much prefer my flip flops! Never with socks, though. I hate socks and wear them as little as possible.
I don't find sneakers comfortable at all, never have. Too constricting. I much prefer to be barefoot or in sandals or flip flops.
I swear by Reef flip flops, the good old basic Stargazer style. I've put a lot of miles on many pairs of them. I've walked all over Las Vegas, as much as 8-10 miles in one day in them!
I hate socks too. But need them when it's cold.
I never tried Reef, should try them.
What I like about cheap flip flops is I can buy one of each color.
I have one pair of Croc flip flops that fit me perfectly. They were about $20. They are so tough, they have not worn out at all after over 3 years. But I'm afraid they won't last the rest of my life, and don't know if I can ever find the exact same ones again, and then I would be devastated. So I am trying to get used to Old Navy's. They are good. Perfectly flat, unlike the Crocs which have a minimal arch support.
By the way, I also like the Adidas massage sandals. They're good for walking and feel so good. I wouldn't wear them to a wedding or funeral, or any really formal occasion though.
OluKai is my favorite brand for flip flops. Insanely comfortable, very stable on my foot.
Too pricey for me to stock up on them, they run $80 and up, but to me, well worth it.

Arches won't fall if your feet get enough exercise. Wearing shoes probably causes weak arches. I can't say that for certain, just a hypothesis. We evolved to walk barefoot, so I think that is the most natural and the best. However, as I said, our feet need protection from the bad weather and broken glass, etc.
Strong feet also depends on the alignment of the spine and hips and knees. All has to be more or less correct, or the feet will not hit the ground correctly.
Yeah, on soft ground, not hardwood or linoleum floors, or asphalt roads and concrete sidewalks.

The Reef ones I buy are around $25-$30 dollars, sometimes less at DSW (closer to $20). I wear them all the tie, every day, and they last a very long time. I'd rather have a couple of slightly more expensive, good quality ones, that 100 cheapies. Reef changes syles but this one is one of their flagship styles so it hasn't changed in a very long time, which is a good thing.

Those are nice, but I have tried them on in the store and I actually like the feel of my cheapies better.
The soles of those Reefs are made of a kind of material that some may prefer, but I don't. No idea why. But I'm sure they are very comfortable to wear all the time.
When I lived in Florida, I wore flip flops a lot. Besides safety concerns at specific times, I also did not like walking around in them during Rainy Season in torrential downpours in parking lots. Eeeew. What is in these big puddles of water from all these cars? Go home and soak my feet to get them clean? Put on shoes and socks to go out in the rain.

But then your shoes get wrecked. I would rather walk through puddles with my flip flops because you can just rinse them off and they are good as new.
I bought only New Balance or Adidas. On those cheap ones the piece between the toes is very hard plastic, hurts, and will separate from the sole after a short time of wear.
Still, know that if you wear flip flops a lot you will develop a callous between your toes, and maybe even on your heels.

No I didn't, and I wear them A LOT.
