This article says people are getting sick from kale and other brassicas because they contain heavy metals from the soil, even organically grown.
The article is short on showing actual people who got sick. But have any of you heard of this research?
They also don’t tell you how much is safe to eat.
I already knew broccoli pulls up lead from soil, put you have to eat a lot to be damaged by it.

Nothing eaten in excess or as a fad food is good for your health! A balanced diet is still the best!

I prefer Spinach, never liked kale anyway. When I buy the bunch of spinach, I have to wash it VERY WELL to get all of the dirt off.

This is the reason why I eat a wide range of foods, I rotate spinach, chard, arugula and kale for greens, I rotate my proteins, my grains.... everything.

Washing the veggies won't necessarily get rid of heavy metals. The plant absorbed them from contaminated soil as it grew. Fads are just that....fads. People managed to survive without eating loads of kale. Not good to overdo a fad!

I never mentioned metals, I did mention dirt which fresh spinach has a LOT of. If you buy it in a bag, maybe not so much. As for the kale, something about the flavor which never agreed with me and I had it several ways. As far as contamination, even organic only covers what is not sprayed on the plant, as for the soil, who knows, It's anybody's guess.

The Op's article is about the uptake of metals into plants that we consume.

We love cooked kale...not so much on it raw. I hope there is a warning about it...used to be really cheap, but the price keeps rising!

It sounds like people in one spot eating a LOT of locally grown Kale (so probably from one or two farms) had this problem.

Literally anything at a high enough dose can poison you.
