Call the doctor's office and ask. If you don't like the doctor's answers, then get a second opinion from another doctor. Other than that, it is foolish to ask people here about their prep when they might not have the exact same medical conditions and concerns your husband's doctor has. For example, what if 5 people here told you to ignore that advice and do something else or do nothing the doctor said, are you going to follow that? That would be very foolish. Contact the doctor's office, they want you to contact them.

That just sounds weird having to take it in the middle of the night. When he did his previous colonoscopy he started in the a.m. the day before the prep and was cleaned out by around 11 pm and able to get some sleep prior to procedure day. I don't get the 2 a.m. requirement, did any of you with recent colonoscopies get the same instructions?
The first bottle will begin moving the bowels higher up in the colon. The bowels should typically move after each meal otherwise it gets blocked up and that is when you get flatulance and constipation. The second bottle will expel any waste you accumulated from lunch and supper meals. By the next morning you will be feeling lighter and refreshed,

That's what I had to do when I had mine last year. At least once I came home I was able to sleep for a few hours.

The type of Prep used, differs between Gastroenterologists. It is indeed silly to ask about it here. Best source of information is from the physician's office.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I already called the doc's office and was told that is how this particular doc does the prep. I asked here because I was curious if the split dose is common now, because that was the first time either of us has heard of it. I don't know why you people would assume my husband is going to follow someone else's prep recommendation.

Everyone else, thank you very much for taking the time to post your experiences.

I have never had that crazy time for the end of the Preps (4 colonoscopies under me belt), but a month ago I drove a friend of mine to one and on the way there he told me he had the WEIRD hr too for the last cocktail, and obviously he never slept again after 2 AM.

If in 2 yrs for my next one, my Doctor has that type of Prep, I will refuse the service , unless we go back to more civilized hrs, or I will look for the specialist that can satisfy my needs and not those of the Pharma people that pu$h the stupidy onto physicians to move their product line. Truly and shamefully that is what Medicine is all about anymore in this Country.

^^ Hammocks, the link Oldgardener posted is pretty convincing, the split dose does sound like a good idea re. polyps. Husband had 3 polyps (that could have turned into something unpleasant) removed last time, so I'd rather have him do it this way and make sure they don't miss anything. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I like Waldokitty's suggestion of trying to schedule an afternoon procedure so the second dose doesn't have to be taken in the middle of the night.

All this fuss over losing part of one night's sleep? Do the prep as your MD directed to get the best result, have your procedure, go home and go to bed early. The rest of your life is waiting.

^^ What fuss? Since when is posing a question about other people's experience a fuss? I don't get why anyone would bother to post just to criticize. Why not just scroll on by instead of making snarky comments?

The OP just came off as a complaint about something that is pretty minor, that's all.
