I'm pretty sure the MAYO CLINIC is excellent at diagnoses and likely needs no help from us about treatment or meds.

If any pain management program is above standard, surely MAYO CLINIC has one.

No one should ever adversely criticize someone else's complaint of pain. WE can't feel THEIR pain.

The only right treatment is the one that works, whether that's conventional meds, PT, herbs & spices, prayer or superstitious charms. If it works, it's right.

I have already gone through tons of stretching exercises as part of my four PT programs. It didn't help at all. If anything, it made the pain even worse. My hamstrings are extremely tight though. But no matter how much I stretch, it barely improves the situation.

Doctors don't think it's fibromyalgia. The pain ONLY occurs when there's gravitational pressure from standing, sitting, laying down, etc. In other words, if I was floating in the air, the pain would not exist. It only happens when sitting, standing or laying down. It's pressure pain from stress on the joints and spine or something.

Have you tried aqua pt? It takes that pressure off and can help maintain flexibility and muscle mass without the strain. I guess the big question is what is your goal in doing the program? Is your pain being treated to your standard currently? Do you think it will help you live $2000 worth of a better life? As a CRPS patient if it had a chance of helping with my pain I would strongly consider it but if it’s just another hoop to jump through I wouldn’t waste my time and money. Maybe get a second opinion (or more) to find out what the doctors expect you to gain from it and whether they would do it if they were in your shoes.

I wouldn't be too sure of it, just because its the Mayo Clinic. I worked in the University of Michigan Medical Center, which also has a world-class reputation, and I saw a lot of farces, just to get the money....

I was just re-reading OP's post and I can't imagine this program. Do you actually "move in" and live there and do what, take meds? Opioids? $35K and OP pays $2K. I've heard plenty about Pain Mgmt Clinics and doctors but rehabs for pain. I know people go to live in rehabs to get rid of drugs etc they are addicted to. And these can be very costly? Sounds rather suspect to me as I re-read the comments. Anyway, my take. What happens after the $35K stay?

The program lasts three weeks and is held M-F 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays. I live just 2 miles from the Mayo Clinic so it's an easy commute for me. I don't need residency or anything like that.

One of the whole points of the program is to get patients off of medication. I'm not on any medication currently, so that's irrelevant to me. There are no drugs involved whatsoever.

The program website is here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/departmen...enter/overview

After the program, there's nothing. The goal is to get patients to functioning like a normal person and hopefully be able to do daily tasks without pain and cope with it.

OP: Thanks for the link. Interesting. So does your insurance pick up the $35K. I have my doubts about Medicare paying this but don't know. There is no Mayo Clinic near me. Of course there are no guarantees to any therapies. Not being negative but this is true.

Yes, my insurance will cover $33K of the $35K. But even so, $2K is quite a bit for me to spend out of pocket for a 3-week program with no guarantees. Personally, I doubt it will help much. There isn't enough personalized attention. But I could be wrong.

You should also explore some possible dietary cause for your pain. It's known that fibromyalgia can be caused by some substances such as MSG and Aspartame. MSG is often concealed in processed food, with no hint about it shown in the ingredients list. A dietary specialist might help determine what foods should be avoided.
