Has anyone ever heard of this? I went to the eye dr. today and was charged 65.00 because i asked for a written copy of eye prescription, to order new glasses. Huh??? When I asked about it at the desk the woman said since I didn't have a "vision plan" there was this charge for the script. WTH???

Was this on top of the office visit charge?

I just had my vision checked because it was a requirement to renew my driver's license out of state. It was $65 for the eye exam and I got the written results to send to the DMV. I have never heard of an existing patient having to pay for simply an existing record. Perhaps the office billing computer system has the two---exam and record---automatically linked and thus needs to be charged another way for just the record? I would definitely not pay for just a record, it's not a reasonable expectation even in this day of absurd medical systems.

I've never heard of being charged for a prescription after having my eyes checked. In fact, I'm not sure that's even legal here.

Well, apparently it's legal here. I have to pay $45 for a written prescription, after paying separately for the eye exam.

It was in addition to the office visit which was 160.00 I called my insurance but the claim was not reported yet, so I will have to wait until then. But that doesn't include the 65.00 I got a copy of my script last time and I don't remember this happening. It just makes no sense.

Must be ok where you are, I guess. At the eye clinic I go to, the eye exam (or refraction) is $37 (it's generally not covered by medical insurance), and they give the patient a copy of the prescription, no charge for that. I can't say I have ever heard of being charged for a written prescription following an eye exam.

Sounds like those charging for the Rx are wanting the patients to purchase glasses/contacts at their practice.

Pretty shoddy.

I agree. That was my first thought. I've never heard of anyone charging extra for a written Rx for glasses or contacts.
