CNN cable reported today that the CDC has listed

*Fentanyl*

the most abused drug, passing heroin, meth, PRESCRIPTION opioids.

From 2013-2016, they noted the synthetic opioid Fentanyl as the cause of death in 29% of overdose deaths.

No telling what the rate of deaths would be for 2017-2018...Fentanyl is rated somewhere between 50-100 times more potent than morphine.

Would like to see the study by CDC.

I understand the chemical difference between fentanyl and opiates.

But Fentanyl is an Opioid. It acts on the Opioid receptors. So saying "more deadly than Opiates" is really splitting hairs.

Fentanyl is an opioid.

It is an highly effective drug when used properly. Hospital setting or prescribed for high pain pts.

I received it NUMEROUS times during/after surgeries. Guess what? Not an addict after...Amazing!

Want to abuse drugs well "ya get what ya get..."

What?

Fentanyl is a SYNTHETIC opioid. No one disputes it's good properties.

SYNTHETIC opioid. I'll change it as it's confusing......I have not seen the CDC comments.

I guess there must be street fentanyl because doctors don't offer prescriptions of it as far as I know. I could be wrong.

I would imagine if you were addicted to opioids like Norco and Vicodin that the next logical step would be to go to fentanyl, or heroin. More bang for your buck. Who is making this and how is it getting on the streets?

Lots of (maybe most) street heroin is Fentanyl these days, or Fentanyl contaminated with Heroin (and obviously cut way down.)

Doctors do offer prescriptions for it (generally to cancer patients suffering from severe, unremitting pain).

How it's getting on the streets is a good question.

Yes. It's only deadly when abused.
