It depends on why I’m calling. If I need to “press 1 to make, change or cancel an appointment”; it’s usually answered by a human. Obviously, if you need to “speak with a nurse”; you leave a message but many offices will start returning calls after 4 pm when the waiting room thins out..

If you press 0 it will usually route to the front desk anyway.

My DR's office made it so you can only make a appt via the internet, I am sure they lost a lot of older patients.

I can leave a voice-mail message but it usually takes days for the staff to return my call. I get faster responses with the portal and the staff encourages use of the portal over using the phone.

Yes, mine as well. It is like an impossible call center situation if I try to call (and completely worthless), but usually better if I use the portal. The nurse usually calls back in 24 hours.
