Why do we need new ones, since the effectiveness is so perfect? (at 36%)
Those of us who support flu vaccination are aware that flu vaccines are less than perfect. We just accept that reducing the risk by 36% is better than not reducing it at all, and in most seasons the effectiveness is closer to 60%.

Would you use a new safety device on your car if it reduced your risk of dying in a crash by 36%?

Well, that depends. What risks does the safety device have and when weighing the risk vs benefit, which is the better choice?

The current one is 36%. Not 60%. Don't fudge stats when trying to support scientific data. It's dishonest.

In general, the original vaccines are tested against placebo. Once a vaccine has been found to work, other vaccines are tested against it. It may come as some surprise to you that it is unethical to withhold a proven intervention, such as a vaccine that works.

We have not seen an efficacy number for this year's flu vaccine, unless you know something I don't know.
