Well I can tell you what happened to my mom when she quit drinking. 4 months sober but she's quit before.
Her skin looks better
She was more focused and alert
Her memory was better
She lost some weight
She stopped being nasty
more energy
less anxiety

She is her old self again.

I was a very serious weightlifter in high school and college, and have kept doing it recreationally. My drinking pace has easily been thirty beers a week on average. I also mostly drink craft beer, so more calories. My peak weight was about 255, though I've been floating around 245, give or take five pounds, for the past two months. Blood work for cholesterol, A1C, etc., was taken last fall and all was normal. I'm still very active and walk at least a mile on my lunch hour, weather permitting, gym three times a week, and hike. I'm on a multivitamin, an OTC test booster, and milk thistle.

I haven't had an alcoholic beverage since Saturday night. I feel weird. I wear an Apple Watch to bed and have AutoSleep on. I've gone from maybe 1-2 hours of deep sleep a night while drinking to 4-5. While drinking, I was getting up to pee every hour or two. A heavy night on the bottle led to a choppy sleep like an apnea patient.

Last night, I was in bed from 12-7, no standing, .and the watch records a standing hour in the time it takes me to go to the restroom. That's the first time I truly slept "through the night" without a restroom break in ages. I did cardio and weights yesterday, and still felt fine afterward.

What did you notice when you reduced or stopped alcohol consumption?
I slept better, I ate better, I felt better.

I drank too much with my former spouse. Now that I am in a new relationship and my bf does not drink--I have cut way back. He is not against alcohol but says he does not desire it and is fine with me if I drink. I have found that I really don't like it like I used to. I believe I drank too much before with the former spouse in order to escape reality. Since I cut way back I have noticed the same things as some of you have: better sleep, clearer skin, more energy, less acid reflux , clearer mind and more money in my pocket with not buying it near as much. I also wanted to be healthier as well.

Amazing how many tell the same story about sleeping better, better skin and losing weight. Keep it up. For me, at my age the skin isn't so important plus I have been told over and over, even by doctors how young I look. Guess it hasn't hurt my skin too much As for losing weight it seems to be a point that should be well taken; cut out the calories in booze and the weight would come off as long as people do not replace it with sweets which often they do. Now, the sleep issue I have no trouble sleeping as long as I hold the amount of alcohol down, so I am sure there is truth to this, plus I hear it over and over.

Goes to show how we are all different. I am nearly 70 now, with great skin (no wrinkles) a good weight and decent figure and good energy, health etc. I have been drinking 2-3 glasses of wine per night for around the last 25 years. Like you, I get told over and over how much younger I look even by my doctors. I do think it is important not to overdo on alcohol and I don't. I always know my limit and stick to it.

Same here. I drink wine and I eat very healthy and I exercise. I think drinking alcohol is an individual experience. Everyone is different.

The other factor I have been told is eating habits. Many who over do the alcohol also do not eat healthy. As much as how much you put into your system is how healthy your eating habits are. My dad was a big drinker, but he also ate well balanced meals with lots of veggies. He lived to be 93 and until the last year of his life he was very healthy, very alert and never acted or looked his age. At 92 he had a stoke and was never quit the same.
