For the past several months I have noticed that when I pee it gets real bubbly/foamy and makes a hissing sound. I feel okay otherwise, though I do drink a decent amount, not sure if that matters.

OP: Drink what? If it's water it would think it's clear and smooth running, my experience anyway.

What did your doctor say when you told him about this?

You may have protein in your urine, which can have many causes. See your doctor.

Most likely-- but the "hissing sound" suggests the possibility of passage of air being involved from a recto- or vaginal (if applicable)-cystic fistula. Stranger things have happened.

OP: Just wondering about your age. And I mentioned water consumption. I knew some older folks who had bubblying and very yellow urine and they didn't drink nearly enough water during the day. Oh the person I am thinking about was an alcohol drinker. You said you drank, so I guess you are talking about alcohol.

I second the protein-in-urine possibility.

I do low-carb and get the foaming/bubbling urine if I eat really high-protein/lower-fat.

Foaming urine often means protein in the urine-- But you're not supposed to have protein in the urine, regardless of how much you eat-- May mean nephropathy.

Yeah, I do find it mildly concerning. But I know when I go from a regular Atkins-like diet to
Ketogenic, the bubbles in my urine pretty much go away.

I have considered getting a 24-hour urine-protein analysis done........maybe sooner rather than later.

You now have two threads going about the foamy urine. One is enough.
