My allergies get pretty bad in spring and I take both allegra (pm) and Zyrtec (am) along with Flonase. If you can’t take Flonase, maybe one of each will help. That is what my allergist recommended because my nose was getting irritated from all the sprays.

I swear by Children's liquid Benadryl, hits your system faster. None of the 2nd/3rd/4th generation antihistamines work as well for me. Yes, the side effects are stronger, but it actually works for me and does so very quickly. I do think it differs by person. Claritin and Zyrtec do very little to help me, Allegra was better, but you still have some side effects for what I find is far less efficacy.

I took the Big B twice this week. The first time, I got tired quickly and fell asleep. The second night it did have nearly the same soporific effect, but still helped with the allergies. I will say that Benadryl tends to dry you out........fast. Sometimes that means less drip, but being stuffy.

You guys have convinced me to lay in a supply of children’s Benadryl. Also, to try to take it on an empty stomach, though you never know when an allergy attack will hit.

I’m having surgery today to remove some of the polyps and that should help with breathing/sleeping.

I took benadryl first after a massive allergic reaction to sulfa. I noticed how sleepy it made me.

Later, I dosed myself during a period when I was not able to get to sleep at night. It worked! But about 3 or 4 hours later it wore off and I woke up in the wee hours, and had trouble getting back to sleep.

I might try the liquid version of this though, when I am desperate to sleep and can’t get there.

My back was trying to spasm last night. I took 1/2 of a Baclofen, and later went right to sleep later. Back spasms cause much of my difficulties with sleep. But sometimes I can’t identify a cause. Maddening.
