Doctors of CD. I have had a varicocele since the age of 13 (now 29). Should I be concerned about any fertility issues? Just looking for some expert opinions.

Aren't there support groups or online communities that specialize on this? Somehow I'd think you would get more "expert" opinions there, not here.

I have had varicocele most of my life. When I was 20 a doc offered to remove them, and told me that I should likely have a very low chance of being fertile.

At 25 we had no difficulty getting my wife pregnant.

At 55 I had prostate cancer. My urologist was going to remove my prostate, so before the surgery, I asked him to also remove the varicocele, at the same time. He did both.

Thanks for the response. Do you remember if the doc believed the removal of the varicocele would enhance your fertility odds?

oh yes. Absolutely.

He said that I was virtually infertile, and I would remain so until I had the varicocele removed.

But around five years later, we got pregnant anyway.

So the being sterile thing is not 100%.

DH has a varicocele. We had no trouble conceiving.

I would say do not get it fixed until after you try for a pregnancy. If there is no conception in six months or so with no contraception then talk to a urologist about it.
