I have an odd spot just above the back of my knee. There is no pain, but does itch occasionally. I noticed two days ago after going for a walk. Since I live in a very rural area this could easily be a bite of some sort. However I have lived in this area of WV my whole life and have seen nothing like this before. Anyone have any ideas?

Hard for us to dx but if it were my issue, I'd start with adding some zinc oxide on the area. This is what I would do, I'm telling no one what to do.

Hard to guess what this is from your pic OP. Looks quite superficial. Have you put anything on it and if so, what results?

If that's an irregular shaped mole, get to a Dermatologist ASAP. It does not look good

Could be a Melanoma---NOTHING SUPERFICIAL ABOUT THAT!!!!

I agree with mike1003.

A good friend, in her late 40s, had a spot like that on the back of her leg, very close to her knee. She ignored it because she thought melanoma was always black and also because the lesion didnt itch or bother her. Well, it was melanoma and she didnt go to the doctor in time. She died less than a year later.

Please dont let this happen to you. It may be just a bite but are you willing to take a chance? Go to your doctor and be sure.

As mentioned already go see a dermatologist. He/she can determine or test immediately what you have. I see a dermatologist annually, you'd be surprised what they find on your body, especially if you're exposed to the sun a lot.

OP I guess it would help if you told us whether this spot just showed up suddenly after your walk or whether you've had it for a while.

Looks like the area was "pinched" with a blood bruise and some discoloration around it. Bruises take longer to heal as you get older. I would wait a few days for it to fade. Maybe you got it getting off/on a hard chair?
