Any one who has been suffering with severe persistent gout who is also on medication for high blood pressure medication take heed. If your med is Lisinopril, stop taking it immediately, that is the cause of the gout.
Lisinopril is evil evil evil ! It causes so many more bad side effects than the warnings list. I'll control my high Blood pressure with a better diet and exercise from now on.

I have been on Lisinopril for over 2 yrs and have had a significant increase in gout.
It has now been in my left index finger PIP joint and the uric acid has actually "eaten" a hole in the distal end of my proximal phalange.
I have been taking Indocin and trying some PT to help get the inflammation down.
Diet..eat very little high protein foods. 2 glasses of wine/night. Lot's of water.
Exercise and not overweight.

Thanks for the info. Calling my doc now.

Hubby takes Allopurinal everyday, to stave off gout attacks...he also has HBP, and none of his meds affect the gout problem...he used to take lisinopril, but that did raise his potassium levels, so they switched him.

Gout is VERY painful. I get it often. Im currently on my 7th straight day & my left foot has swelled greatly. I was taking 200 miligrams of allopurinal & my doc doubled the dose on tues. I barely slept last night & i can barely move my toes. I get waves of pain often. I am also drinking apple/cherry juice & taking 800 mg of ibuprofen. I can only get around with a cane. The pain at times has been unbearable & a shoe on my foot is out of the question. I hope it clears up soon. The longest bout i have had is 10 days. I have hbp as well so i gotta lose weight & eat better.

I have been on Lisinopril for over a year dont have gout I watch my diet dont drink and drink a lot of water. Gout is cause by a build up of uric acid in the system water helps to flush it out of your system.
Have you discussed this with your Dr.?

I believe it has more to do with your diet than the meds.
