Because in America, blaming the victim is never encouraged. We just love to cuddle the victims even if they brought it upon themselves.

When's the late time you see a doctor and they give you a harsh reality check. Instead they just give you a happy meal to take home full of pills and prescriptions to keep you alive, barely.

The victims should be blame but the FDA share equally in the Blame. More sugar in our Breakfast Cereals than 40 years ago, The long Term effects of, High fructose corn syrup in our diets. Food Deserts in our poorer neighborhoods in US, making hard to get Quality Health Food almost Impossible in Some cases. Like i said a while ago, Big Food, Big Pharma and the FDA have been in cahoots for way too long.

Maybe. But it's not kids who buy cereal. It's their parents. Take some responsibility for your own diet, and that of your offspring.

The only way the FDA, Big Food, and Big Pharma are in on it is if they said Fast Food is not fattening. I've never heard them say that.

A food desert? Sure. You think 50% of the country lives there? Nope. How'd the rest of us get so fat?

No one is forcing anyone to eat crappy food. I do understand about food deserts, and they can be a problem, but they are not the whole reason. Most people do not live in food deserts and they still choose to eat the worst foods possible when there are many other more healthful choices.

Agree, but they (by which I mean, the food industry at large) has been increasing the amount of sugar in foods to a stupid level in recent years.

Forget processed foods which we already know are bad, stuff like sliced turkey has added sugar now. Ketchup might as well be syrup for all the added sugar in it. I've discovered that if you're watching your sugar intake, you have to be very, very careful what you buy and read all the labels 2x because sugar has 100 different names and it's in everything.

People need to be taught to ignore the so-called 'healthy' or 'low-fat' options for the same reason. Sugar overload.

Thats true. I think people need to start reading labels and also, put the work in and cook unadulterated foods.

Right - very little of that matters if you're cooking your own meals from mainly fresh ingredients.

There is very little "added" sugar to tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, onions, cucumbers...and so on...

Obesity denial is strong in people. They often think the weight they gain is all muscle because they do 10 pushups every day.

They overstate the number of obese people.

Sort of maybe...but YOU don't get to define "obese." Doctors do. And if they define it by BMI - then that's what it means.
They could just get rid of the "O" word...and say something else: "If your BMI is over 30, you need to lose weight."
Does that make you feel better? Probably not.

There are certainly pro athletes over the limit, and some other folks...but you are probably not them. Neither am I. I gotta tell ya, the "average" folks I know - whose BMI is over 30...certainly look like they could lose a few pounds (medically speaking - this is not a criticism). If you don't think so - I gotta go with mascoma...denial...

Yes, we all need full length mirrors in our homes, profile view doesnt lie.

Maybe something DR offices and stores like CVS and Walgreens should put up.
