Hey Yorkie Mom, don't beat yourself up so much for falling off the wagon. I have tried and failed to quit also, but I'm planning on trying again. We all have our weak moments, and times of big stress are especially difficult. I am definitely sending you rep points, because I admire your courage. Hang in there!

Yorkie-
Just because you had to smoke, doesn't mean you have to continue. You can stop it all again.
I know you can!! You did it the first time, right? No reason why you can't do it again. I can understand (believe me) how when you are super stressed and emotional, that is like a reflex to grab the smokes. But, you have to find something to fill that void and habit. Like when I am really feeling like I need to have a smoke, I clean, or call a friend, or get eat a lifesaver.. something else. It gets my mind off the craving, and I get focused on something else. Plus it helps me calm down from what is bothering me.
I will be honest, last weekend I had to move my grandma into an assistant living facility. I was really upset, and I was going through her house packing things up...seeing all the stuff that reminded me of my grandpa (he died like a year and a half ago) and I went and bought a pack of ciggarettes. I lit one, took a drag.. and I gagged. It was so gross tasting to me. I barely even inhaled it. I threw the whole pack away then I was mad that I wasted 4 bucks! But, I realized that I don't need that stuff anymore.. so now I am just trying to get my mind focused on other things.
Plus, it will be a lot easier for me to quit now on my own terms, than HAVE to quit when I get pregnant. Which is soon.. HOPEFULLY!!!
You can do it Yorkie!

Thanks everyone, I am still smoke free, I do not have a craving for one, I guess I do have a question???? When I quit smoking, like this morning and still now, I have like swallon glands, kind of a sore throat, I do suck on hard candy, and chew gum when that gets old, but some times it is hard to swallow.
It also bothers my ears, I don't know if it is something else, or due to not smoking, just thought I would ask and see what anyone had to say.
I am going to do this, and I will not go back, I prayed really hard last night, and I feel better about quitting already, I am just glad it was short term, but when I did have one, talk about getting high!!!! What the heck is in them to get you to feel so high???? Well I will keep everyone posted, and as you all know normal people do screw up, but I am on the right path again, keep the support coming. Thank you everyone!!!!!

The first week after I quit, my throat was sore and my nose got stuffy. I decided that I was allergic to clean air.
Acutally, I don't know if it was just a coincidence or if it really is something in a form of "withdrawl".

I think you maybe right!!!! How are you holden up??? I am still smoke free, and plan on staying this way, even if I am tired, cranky, and want to stuff my face, until I can get some control, oh well, but I also get on the walker machine and walk for 45 minutes every night, so I hope that will help with keeping the pounds off.
It is also interesting to know that yeah we make mistakes, and then we pick ourselves back up and start all over again, we are only human. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone on this crazy ride to being a non smoker. I look forward into hearing from you or anyone who has any stories about what they are going through, or have went through. Take care. I will check back soon.

Best of luck to you and anyone who wants to quit smoking. I attempt and fail many times every week but I still have faith that one day I will be ready.

It is very hard, but you have to keep on trying until you get it right, no matter how many times you fail, we will be here to help pick you back up, so that you can start over with a fresh clean slate, you are worth it. I think this time it has been easier, I haven't had a craving, and I hope it stays that way.
I haven't shoved food down the throat like before, but I am just taking it a day at a time, and so far so good. Good luck, and I noticed you were from Minnesota also, so just a little more thought for the day, Minnesota is going smoke free with or with out you, we really don't have to many choices any more and it is only getting worse, so we decided that we were going to give them up before the people in this state made us. It is sad not to have the support in the state on quitting, certain insurance plans do help people try to quit, our health plan didn't cover nothing as far as getting help with the patch, gum or anything, so if you have coverage, better grab it now, because the way things are going it won't be long before they get rid of cigarettes altogether, we have no rights any more. I chose to give them up, maybe with our help you can to, I am here if you need support. Good luck!!!

Yorkie Mom, I still have faith in you too. Don't be too hard on yourself! We all have moments of weakness, I sure have, not in smoking but other things. So you hang in there! This does not mean you can't do it!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I am sorry to read about the problems with your husband too.
So you just forget about your slip up and keep going with your head held high!!!

I am not doing too bad actually.. like I said before, that first couple days (hours even!) are the worst!!!
But then when it starts building up like-ooh I made it a week, two weeks, etc.. it just gets easier.
With the exception of me trying to smoke once, I haven't touched them.
It is still hard when I am drinking not to smoke. They just go hand in hand. BUT.. I have resisted. Seemed my weak moments were when I was really emotionally drained and upset. So, in conclusion I figured that if I stay positive, remove myself from the situations that are upsetting me and get my mind on something else.. I can do it. It's easy. (You should hear my laughing my *** off in my head as I was tpying that)
Yorkie, you're not alone. We are all supporting eachother.

I am still smoke free, maybe I just needed to get that out of my system before I could let go, what ever it was it is working for me now.
I do take a short nap in the day just to get over the tired feeling, after that I am good to go, and have no cravings, I also get on my health walker every night for 45 minutes for now, but I will add more time on as I stay smoke free.
This forum is the best, it has helped many of us get through some tuff times, and has helped so many others understand we are normal people, and just out to support the ones that need it, pick people up when they are down, and just have some one to relate to when the need arises. Thanks City-Data!!!!
