Thank you for the fast replies.
I am very much determined to never smoke cigarettes ever again! I am one of the unlucky types that in winter, flu season...I got hammered every year and bronchitous on top of it all. Acute each time, but that gets old. Well this year it was warm enough to be flu season all winter, and I got laid out 3 times from SEP 2006 to Jan 2007. JAN 13th 2007 the day I quit was the day my buddy had to help me to the hospital as I am working overseas and he spoke the language and knew the care system, etc, etc...long story another time if you all want to know more maybe.
Smoke smell..well not that I can tell. I know if a smoker is around, man I can smell it like a mile away. Then again, house could be so familer I am not noticing it. Never smoked in either car, ever. So it would have to be the house.
No plans here to throw it away Fuzzy. I am in this for the long haul. I want my lungs back!
If my replies come at weird times, I am stationed overseas.

Are you still in the service? None of my business, but you said "stationed" overseas. I know what you mean about smelling the smoke. My son hates cigarette smoke, but when he's at a club where there's smoking-which, by the way, there is NOT supposed to be, evidently they aren't enforcing this yet-I can smell it on his clothes when he gets home. I feel so horrible knowing how much he has always hated the smell, etc. of cigarette smoke, and thinking that if I wasn't right in front of him he couldn't smell it, or that it shouldn't bother him. By all means, if you want to share your story of going to the hospital overseas, please do.

Keep up the good work, it is worth it in the long run. They say the best thing to do is drink a lot of water, and eat a lot of fruits and veggies, we have hard candy, suckers, cinnimon sticks, or even run around with a tooth pick or short straw in your mouth, some times it is the sucking motion, or being able to put something up to your mouth.
I don't want you to start with even one, I had to but that was me, I need to stay away from people that I know that smoke, and then I will be just fine.
Sorry to hear you have been sick a lot over the winter, I am normally the same way, but since the flu shot, I have had that once and rwo sinus infections, so I will just be glad when winter is over. Take care and keep on going a day at a time. We're here if you need us. Take care, Yorkie

Fuzzy,
I am still with the Army, but now in a Civilian GS capacity. At this time I am in The Netherlands. It's all good. Ask away....if I do not answer, well you know. I try to be very approachable.
Funny part to quiting was how I been fighitng ot stay civil at work. paid off big time as most did not even notice any change..but man was I wiped out when getting home. Felt like I had excerised every inch of my soul not ripping into others. One day wife was "you were soo good today" I told her to shot me next time.. call it a mercy kill to end my suffering and move on. I think that was in week 2. LMAO
So at least I would rather be shot then smoke cigarettes again.
Yorkie,
Wish I could find those toothpics that are cinnimon flavored??, I bet those would help a ton. Anyone know a website for them I am all eyes!
Tried the normal toothpics, but with no flavor at this time I am like YUCK, next..back to gum. I think I chew more gum now then I ever smoked! LOL
Pepermints hard candies help as well, but i am also trying to watch my intake and not turn into a ballon.

GSH I have something here for you.
What you do is go and buy cinnamon oil at any pharmacy, buy a box of toothpicks, and then put about 30 in a clean medicine bottle, add a few drops of the cinnamon oil, shake it real well, and let it sit for so long to your taste level. There you have your cinnamon toothpicks, pretty easy, I might have to make some up myself.
If you need anything else just ask away, take care of yourself, and like I said we are here to help. Yorkie

Wow has this thread grown. I'm glad I'm not alone in this plight. I have not smoked since I posted this thread thanks to the support of my family and a prescription drug called CHANTIX. It's in tablet form and you take it for 12 weeks. I've gained 20 lbs , but will start working out soon. My sense of smell is that of a wolf, sex is much better (stamina) (excuse me if that was too much info), I can taste my food a lot better, and I don't run out of breath when chasing my 3 year old around.
Anyways, thought I check in. Good luck to all.

It is possible. You have to get yourself in the mentality that "I am not a smoker."
To me.. I would get bad cravings while drinking. I have learned that if I just ignore them.. and I get myself nice and comfortable, focused on something else.. they just kind of go away
*Smoke free since 12:00am Jan 1 2007* Only new year's resolution I have kept!!!!!

Congratulations!!! I hope all the others who stopped smoking are doing as well...I know it's difficult. Actually it can be very traumatic, so all of you have my sympathy!
