I quit smoking 6 years ago. Quitting was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I went cold turkey. I was never a heavy smoker to begin with. I would smoke when I drank or was in my car. Never in the morning or in my home.
Hang in there, I know you can do it.

I quit two years ago after 45 years of smoking. I did not want to quit but I had to quit. I took a smoking cessation class, which was very interesting and I learned a lot about why I smoked. I decided that I would use gum and the inhaler to assist my efforts. After three days of not smoking I quit using the crutches and went cold turkey. It seemed a little too easy but I have been smoke free for two years now.
If you do not have the desire to quit (or need to quit), you will probably fail. If you have cessation classes in your area, take one. It also helps if you have support. In my case, my wife was also quiting and we supported each other. My wife did quit but she had to use the inhaler for a month or two.
Above all, keep trying. Don't ever give up! You just have to find the key that will work for you.

I am still smoke free and a B I T C H FROM H E L L!!!! This is tough, I am fine certain times of the day and then all of a sudden, you get this rage built up, I don't understand it, but I just need to be left alone, until that feeling goes away.
I am still smoke free, and want to stay that way, but help me understand what to do when these feelings come up. Thanks!!!!!!

You are doing great yorkie, all of us xsmokers know where you are coming from. When I get really upset and stressed I still have a "Nicotine Moment" and wish I had one, but that is starting to fade. I quit on March first, just a couple days after I joined cd. I don't smoke inside so didn't want to take time out from cd to go out for a smoke Thats only part true and you know that I quit on chantix because I aggravated you to try it

Blueeeeeeeeeeeeee
I started taking Chantix. Immediately it started making me feel very, very agitated. I was always feeling totally out of breath. Getting palpitations and feeling like my heart was in my throat. The other day, I asked my mother for a tranquilizer because it felt like either a heart attack would be coming on, or a panic attack. I took half the pill and felt fine but it scared me so I stopped the pills about 4 days ago, when I was near the end of my 2nd week of Chantix.
Is that normal? I think I'm going to call the doctor and find out if I can start the cycle again from scratch AND if I can do it with Zyban or something in addition because I don't know which was worse, the cigarette pumping or the Chantix side effects.

Vp, No that is not normal. You need to call the Dr and tell him/her what happened and that you quit taking it. I have also heard that it can cause ulcers of the esophagus. I only had to take it for two weeks, because it worked along with my desire to quit, but I did have some insomnia and sime heartburn from it. I hate to take any medicine, but really wanted to quit. I smoked for forty or more years. (Most of those years were outside only) Thank God my heart and lungs are still healthy Good luck to you VP. You can and will do it and we will help!!!

If those are the side affects you're having, well, I'd be scared to death! I heard Kelly Ripa on David Letterman talking about gettin on Wellbutrin to quit-she said it was like it completely wiped out her memory of ever even having smoked-I may not have said that too clearly, but she said it worked great.
Also, a lot of times you can call the pharmacist instead of your doctor and ask them questions, they might be able to give you some suggestions regarding side affects and possible alternatives.

Hmmmm. Thanks Blue and Fuzzy.
I've done Zyban before, which is almost like Wellbutrin. Zyban didn't do it but maybe combined with Chantix........
Combined with anything else, it didn't work either. I wish they would just come up with a magical vaccine, or that I'd be willing to go through intense agony - the cold turkey way, which I really think it's probably the ONLY way.
