Well.. I'm giving it a try again. Not going the convention cold turkey this time.
I did buy the inhalers. I think they are awesome ! I have cut back alot. I find myself thinking, "I can wait till..." and it works. I even find myself putting the cig out half way thru alot. The inhaler helps me with the hand to mouth habit also. I think that was one of my biggest hurdles last time. I found myself doing the hand to mouth habit with FOOD ( chocolate covered pretzels). As soon as I had noticed the weight gain, I went back to smoking
So I am not putting alot of pressure on myself and am going to ween myself off them. I got my inhaler a week ago, and have realized that I have already gone from 2 packs a day to 1 pack a day. No too bad IMO.

YOUR DOING GREAT, I have the inhaler also, it has been a week of being smoke free. I don't use it like I should, I try to rely on it as little as I can. It does help as far as shoving food into your mouth, my weight is going down, and not up, that is always a plus in my book. Keep up the good work, and one day you will decide to just go with out the smokes, but I do think that this way is better then cold turkey.

I don't know the name either, but there was talk of it on another board. Apparently it short circuits the receptor in your brain that causes the addiction.
Ask a doctor.
BTW I started smoking my father's Herbert Taryton non-filtered at age 8. Got hypnotized at age 33 to stop. My mother died the next day. That was in May. I finally got myself psyched up to stop in November the same year. At lunch I found out it was National Smoke Out Day. My wife smoked for another 5 years before she quit...
Wow. Unfinished story. I quit cold turkey. For the second time. It took. Watching my father go though Emphysema was a deciding factor. Hacking my guts up every morning had a lot to do with it.
Do not give up!

COPING TIPS-How to Stay a Non-smoker for Life
Once you quit smoking, it’s time to focus your energy on avoiding the temptation to have “just one cigarette.” To remain an ex-smoker, you need to learn specific techniques to help you cope with stress and situations that trigger your cravings for cigarettes. You can avoid a relapse if you prepare yourself by learning coping skills ahead of time.
Try any of these coping responses when faced with a relapse situation:
· Pop a stick of gum or hard candy in your mouth.
· Remind yourself how hard it was to quit. Do you want to go through that again?
· Have a nonalcoholic drink. Fruit juice, mineral water, and strongly flavored decaffeinated tea are good choices.
· Talk to yourself. Say, “I can beat this,” “I can stay smoke-free for one more day,” or “I will not smoke!”
· Have a crunchy, low- fat snack such as pretzels, popcorn, or carrot sticks.
· Take a short walk.
· Excuse yourself and leave the room if someone lighting a cigarette triggers your craving.
· Remind yourself you are an ex-smoker.
· Get up and do something. Run an errand, do stretching exercises or walk the dog.
· Brush your teeth.
· Take several slow, deep breaths and think about how clear you lungs feel.
· Do something with your hands - doodle, squeeze a rubber ball, play with a toothpick, coin, or paper clip.
· Remind yourself that smoking makes clothes, and hair smelly, dries skin, causes premature wrinkles and turns teeth yellow.
Continued Success to You All!

Brand Names: Zyban
Description: The first non-nicotine medication approved for use in quitting
tobacco. Zyban reduces withdrawal symptoms, especially cravings and
weight gain, for many patients. In clinical trials, Zyban was as effective or
more effective than nicotine replacement. Zyban can be used with nicotine
replacement products.
Directions: Zyban comes in tablet form and is swallowed.
Usual Dose: The dose for each individual must be set in consultation with their
medical provider. Generally, clients will set a quit date a week after
starting Zyban. This allows the medication to start working before quitting
is attempted.
Availability: You must ask your doctor about Zyban as it is available by
prescription only.

I did hypnosis and nicorette gum because some people need a pair of crutches. I've been nicotine free for about 8 years. Good luck to all quitting!

Must say to anyone who wants to quit, that Zyban or Wellebutrin really do work. You smoke on them for about 7-10 days. You will notice after several days that your cravings are not the same. It kinds of strange. You go to have your regular smoke (after dinner, in the am) and it is just not as satisfying. By the 6th day, I had this strange taste in my mouth along with not really desiring the smokes. By the 10th day I felt like, OK I can quit smoking. If you are just not ready yet, smoke for a few more days. I quit more than once using this method. I have been smoke free for 4 months. I did have 2 cheats in that time frame. Mentally, I feel like I am an ex smoker. I did not enjoy my cheats!
