The white bits didn't alarm your doc? The only time I had "white bits" I had tonsilitis... very contagious and not going away without antibiotics. If you are truly drinking a lot of warm liquids and using a humidifier and it doesn't go away, see a doctor. When your throat hurts, believe it or not, the more you drink, the better you'll feel and the faster you'll heal. Damage can occur if you don't keep it lubricated.
