My last day smoking
This is my first trip to the health and wellness forum here on CD. I have tried this 2 times before, and made it only about a week or two. My last time trying to quit smoking was about 3 months ago. Tomorrow I will try again.
The hardest for me is when at the computer, my smoking perch.
Without knowing until today, I think with having "daily journal" as a subforum, this might be my haven for nicotine withdrawl.

Are you quitting cold turkey, or do you have help with a patch, gum, or pills? Either way, if you REALLY want to quit, it CAN be done! Good luck!

Patch. They help most with the craving.

This will be my third time and I've not made it past the first step. I haven't found what covers my confidence in following through. As much as I want to quit, I don't know how to find the strength after more than a week.

I wish you best of luck with this. I quit 3 month ago cold turkey, and not looking back
My advise, instead of sitting at the computer, go and find something to do, something that keeps you busy. This way, you wont think about cigarettes. Exercising keeps me away from the dreaded stick and keeps me in shape.
Keep us posted!

For situations that always triggered a desire for a cigarette (like sitting at the computer for you), I found that substituting another ritual was helpful. Gum, hard candy, a lolipop were all good substitutes for me because they helped satisfy the oral craving and gave me something to do similar to lighting up. For me, the strongest trigger was driving, which of course I couldn't avoid, so I relied on this little substitution ritual. Rewarding yourself for milestones helps too.

It's all in the mind. If you're finding it hard to quit, it's probably you dont really want to.

Congrats! The great thing about quitting, is that you are instantly a nonsmoker, where as someone who just started a diet is still overweight. The patch worked for me, nonsmoker since July'07.
