We used the patches. Started with the 21mg. They really killed the craving for us. I smoked more than my wife to begin with. The only problem is your still looking for that thing in your hand. Well, sitting here in front of me a year and a half later, is a brand new box of patches. My daughter brought them home today. Guess I'll begin my second attempt in the morning. The only thing I didn't like about the patches are the vivid dreams you have. But, they say remove them before going to bed to prevent that. Also, when I first attempted this the patches seemed to last 2-3 days not just one. Anyway, good luck! Try the patches it should leave you with only the frustration of needing something in your hand.

I joined quitnet.com--a forum for quitting, and I lived on there for about 3 months--it really did help me get through those first difficult days.....I also took Wellbutrin and it helped make the smokes taste really nasty! And I just really, really wanted to quit.

Good luck, it's simple to quit--not easy, but simple, if you think about it. Just don't smoke! You can do it, and it's important that you do it! Take care!!

We also have a thread devoted to this very subject here in SA:

well thank you for the link sapphire, and satx56 it sounds like you have a strong willed wife and a daughter that cares, hopefully it works out for you, just hang in there and be strong...if the patches work for you keep it up. I think that's what I will try next. I heard the gum sucks.

Thanks , and I do owe my lungs a lot of smoke free days.My daughter her husband & new baby girl (1-02-08) are moving back in for a while. They need to save some money and get caught up on stuff. Don't want to be smokin' around the little one. Besides I've been getting that evil eye for along time now. Though, I kinda like to live on the edge. I'm starting to feel like I'm gonna fall off!

Wean down while taking a multivitamin + eat bananas:

Eons: View message "bananas help you quit smoking! " in Quitters Are Winners: Quitting Smoking Group

"Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack. "

3 days = nicotine is out of the system
After that:
6-8 weeks for the brain to reset itself from the chemical changes caused by the addiction.

I personally:
- just weaned down till it was only the 3-4 smokes a day. Then I quit.

-Put ciggy cash in a jar everytime I wanted a pack (this really made me think & had strong visual impact)

- After going cold turkey I marked the three days and then the 8 week mark I had to wait for. It really helped because when I didnt feel like there was an end point I half believed in tha 8 week thing just seeing it. Forced myself to stick to it...and no smokes for me anymore. I dont count the days smokeless either. I think that just reminds you of the past. And since you are not living there...forget about it! I naturally ate bananas at that time + other various fresh fruit just because I like it. And then I was passed the info about the "banana magic" and thought it was pretty neat. Hope it helps your quitting too.

Thanks for the info! I think I read about the banana thing somewhere. Good idea! I was running around saying it really is easy first time I tried. But I gave into that gotta have something in my hand thing. Wished I had all the money back that I've spent on the stupid things. Vacations , new cars, new house....Wow!
