Whats a normal amount of hair to lose in the shower while washing it? A friend of mine's cousin usually gets a wad of hair that ( if balled up) fits in the palm of her hand.

How much is too much? Are we going to have to buy her a wig or something?
We're all the same age...so this worries me a bit.

My wife is 27 and sheds like crazy. If we don't keep a filter on the drain I have to take the apparatus apart once a week. She has sustained this for several years and still has a full head of beautiful hair.

I'm 28 and shed worse than our cats and dogs. I have very very thick hair and in the summer I have to keep it short and layered or else I get overheated. I can't just put it in a ponytail because there isn't a hair clip or rubberband made that can keep it up. I lose a small handful of hair while in the shower and another small handful throughout the day. My coworkers have commented on the fact that they usually vacuum up more of my hair than dirt at the end of the day.

I lose a lot of hair everyday too. I wondered about this as well, as I try to sweep up all the hair from the floor before I leave for work in the morning. If I saved up a months worth of hair from the floor - I could make someone a nice little wig! I still have a lot of hair though, and it's waist length and thick and appears to be healthy (no bald spots - yet!). So I am glad this happens to other people too. I guess we're normal!!!

It varies, but around 100 hairs a day is not unusual. If you aren't noticing your hair thinning, you probably aren't shedding too many!

Get her to have her thyroid checked out. It is a symptom.

I loose my hair all the time and hate it.

I went to a dermatologist about this once, years ago. He checked everything and said I was just going through a shedding cycle, and that it was normal.

He also checked to see if new hair was coming in. It was.

So if it seems out of control, she can get it checked out.

She has a big head with thick hair...so I dont think she'll go bald...I think she's just being a worrywart.
