Why do they go to the expense of TV ads for prescription drugs?

Because they want your money? One way or another, they seem to be getting it. Pharmaceuticals as an industry are killin' it.

Why do companies or "sales rep work-at-home professionals" try to sell me, via email, male enhancement pills and "load" enchancement pills? I keep putting them to block sender and they keep showing up in some other form. Now this is my work email, and I have many sources of email that come to me including "technical" and some "sales". But how much time are they wasting on this? Who buys these drugs online?

Because the couch in front of the TV is where you'll find most pill-poppers when those ads run?

Believe me, with what the pharm industry pulls down TV ads are chump change.

The drug companies got together a few years ago and decided they wouldn't try going after doctors anymore (restrictions, etc). That sales budget has to go somewhere...

Don't you have to have a doctor prescribe these drugs? I am sure they have reps that directly approach doctors, so I don't see the value in TVs to the general public.

Advertise to the public=public goes to doctor=gets drugs.

What do they say in almost every ad? "Ask your doctor about Zardoz"...

Reps used to give doctors lunches and presents, etc., to get them to hear about their drugs. Now they show up once in a while, and they usually just get to leave samples for patients. The farthest they usually get is giving a pen or something. So no...the "approaching doctors" thing ended a while back.

This isn't true. Pharma reps come through all the time, leaving reprints of journal papers and samples. They are no longer permitted to leave so much as a pen with a drug name on it.

Pharma companies advertise for two reasons: it gets patients to ask their doctors about their drugs and, believe it or not, it educates patients.

Leaving reprints of articles is not the same as taking someone golfing or to dinner, etc. It's pretty much like the ads in the journals. And I ask one question: Why is this better than what I'm already using? After that, they get das boot. And they do leave pens...which I give to the nurses/EMTs.
