As I've gotten older and eat less, I notice that my body doesn't break down lettuce, tomato skins, and the like. What am I missing or not getting enough of? Or is this just how things go. I'm in my late 30's.

No problem w/fruit skin, you would think they would be very similar. No problem w/beef, pork, chix, fish.

Kinda disgusting, I know, but I am curious.

IMO before rushing off to the doc and getting all their whackd out drugs, you might consider getting some digestive enzymes from a health food store. As we age our bodies sometimes don't make enough....( I use digest by Enzymedica)
also you might consider adding 2 tsps. of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup of water to drink in the evenings. ( I use an organic-Bragg's in particular)

I have been experiencing something similiar, (Like reflux of lettuce....sorry that sounds gross) thought it was too much acid...but I seem to respond better treating for less acid. I think a hiatal hernia has been acting up due to a heavy load of stress recently. Thankfully it seems to be improving.
Chew you food throughly, don't eat fast, and I find it helps to not drink with a meal.

Good luck...if in doubt please do see a doc.

Hi!! I'm in Wichita
Thanks for the reply crazy. I'm a slow eater, but I drink alot of water w/most meals. I don't go to the doctor unless it is obviously broken or I can't stop it from bleeding. It's probably just getting older, guess that is better than the alternative.

Send some rain out here(w.ks) you moisture hogs! We are DRY, I'm sure your tired of the water. Hope you didn't get flooded, sounds like alot of people are cleaning their basements.

Smile I use Proleva

im pretty busy myself and do not have the time to eat as well as i should. So im always looking for ways to get the nutrients i need in my body from day to day. I ran across these proleva suppliments and they seem to be working better than anything else i've tried. I was drinking tons of green tea and i realized taking 2 pills a day was WAY easier.

Captain, agree with crazyma about the digestive enzymes .. works like a hot damn.

Also read not to drink for half hour on either side of meals, for proper digestion. Otherwise you're diluting your digestive juices.

Always remember my mother telling us when we were really young, that it wasn't good to drink with your meal, and noticed she always stuck to that practice.

Not easy for some to do probably, so try the enzymes .. you'll notice a difference I'm sure. Helps to boost our aging metabolism for sure.

Years ago I coached a track team and we had someone come and talk about eating choices. One of the things he suggested also was not drinking your liquids with your meals. He said it dilutes your stomach acid and makes it hard on your system. Makes sense I guess.
I eat a lot of yogurt which I think helps keep your system with good bacteria.

Yogurt is good, yes. Actually probiotic suppliments will definitely help with that. It will also help give your immune system a good boost for the "icky" season coming up

Um, I wouldn't over examine the problem. I'm sure you're fine.
