Does anyone know if GERD or IBS can cause you to feel your jaw clench of tighten and also chest pain and a feeling like you going to pass out?? I was just at the doctor yesturday and Iam now starting treatment and such for IBS and GERD. But I was driving earlier and I was sitting at the light and my jaw clenched, I could not open my mouth. And then my chest hurt, I got cold and I felt like I was going to black out!!! I almost pulled into the other lane to go and park somewhere I was soooooo scared!!! I am only 23 years old and I have had a pretty good health history but now it seems like all this crap is crashing down on me at once!!! Any thoughts on what this may be and if I need to go to ER or can it maybe wait till mon for an appointment??? Thanks everyone!

Could it have been a panic attack?? Are you taking any new meds?

Default Hmm

No I dont think it could be a panic attack.. I havent really had any bad experiences today before this. And also the fullness or tightening in the chest and throat has been for a few days. It almost feels like i swallowed somethin and its stuck? but I havent even eaten anything all day long. I have no appetite and when I do eat, it is very uncomfortable to swallow in the chest area. I do take aderall but ive been taking it for like a year now?

My first thought was it sounded like a panic attack. Even if you don't think you are stressed or anything you could still have one. I would call the doctor to be safe.

It sounds like a panic attack to me too. You may have never experienced them before, but there is always a first time.

My daughter, age 20, had similar symptoms. She rushed herself to the hospital once, in a sweat and clammy and felt like something was stuck in her throat. They x-rayed...nothing. And then sent her home. This feeling would come and go like attacks. I think any chestlike pain in a young person causes panic, hence sounding more like a panic attack. My daughter also tends to get hives and would get horrible hives when she had this sensation of something stuck in her throat. We really couldn't figure out what it was and then she went to a Gastro Dr. and he did an endoscopy and found that she had quite a large ulcer in her esophagus. She started taking Nexium, and was fine in a week.
Stomach issues can have a range of symptoms that are very hard to diagnose, not everyone gets the acide refux feel of heartburn. In my case, I feel a warm sensation coming from my chest, right down the breastbone. And the cartiladge at the base of my breast bone is very tender. I also have pain in my back directly behind this spot in my breastbone..spear-like. Well, after an endoscopy and finding out my stomach was 'not happy', I took Nexium and all symptoms dissappeared, including the tenderness at the breastbone.

There is also a condition called 'globus', which basically is a sensation of something being stuck in the throat but it is psychological. I was sure this was going to be my daughter's case...good thing she had the endoscopy!

I always question the drug 1st. Look what I found:
Adderall: Does Adderall cause heart problems, stroke, and drug abuse?

"Health Canada's decision comes as a result of a thorough review of safety information provided by Shire Pharmaceuticals Group plc, the Pennsylvania manufacturer, which indicated there were 20 international reports of sudden death in patients taking either Adderall (sold in the United States but not in Canada) or Adderall XR (sold in Canada). These deaths were not associated with overdose, misuse, or abuse. Fourteen deaths occurred in children and six deaths in adults. There were 12 reports of stroke, two of which occurred in children. None of the reported deaths or strokes occurred in Canada"

I dont think it matters that you have taken it for a year and no problems till now....

You were either having a heart attack or a panic attack. Due to your age, I would say panic attack more likely.

Hi - I too have had these symptoms for years. Everyone was so convinced that it was panic. Well after landing in the hospital recently from taking a thryoid medication - it was found that I have autoimmune issues, thryoid & celiac. since they went undetected for sooooo many years I have developed allergies to food, chemicals, fragrance, medicines and so on.... guess what the panic attacks for me were really allergic reactions - i am truly lucky to have gotten an answer. Doesn't mean that is what is going on for you, but don't assume because it was not your heart that it couldn't be something as simple as having a histamine overload. 30 years later my family finally realizes it was physical and not emotional!
