Funny you should mention nails, I've had brittle splitting nails for a few years, too. I thought it was because I've been using nail polish. My toe nails are fine, it's just my fingernails. I take Biotin, and don't think I take too much A or E. I take a daily vitamin, but no extra A or E.

Thanks for the link, I made a note of a few foods to eat more of. I already take Biotin, but I didn't know about the other 2.
