A study out by researchers/cardiologists at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and also Childrens Mercy Hospital using ultrasound to measure the thickness of the inner walls of the Carotid Arteries (Neck) found that the kids that were obese and had high triglyceride levels had the same plaquing as a 45 year old adult. What's really surprising is the average age of the child in the study is 13 years old.

Sad, isn't it? Diet, lifestyle factors probably in most. A small percentage maybe genetic. Our society is getting more technological every day, yet basics such as good diet, exercise, stress reduction, etc. are ignored.

We learned that less than 10% of obesity problems could be linked back to genetics.

This is so sad and so preventable.

Like fat dogs, fat kids only get that way b/c of what you feed them. They don't get fat on their own.

That doesn't surprise me a bit. It is so sad what parents are doing to their kids nowadays. I have said before that when I went to elementary school in Miami there were only two fat kids in the whole school and one of them was a girl with a thyroid problem who was already something like 5 '7 in the fourth grade. Nowadays I see so many fat kids at the supermarket with fat parents who load up their carts (yes I am nosy) with Cheetos, Soda and all around junk food. And before anyone points out to me that it is cheaper to eat junk please know that in my town most of these people are upper middle class and above. Not to say there are not exceptions but still these folks can afford healthy food but choose not to. Fine for the adults but not for the kids. It really is hard for me not to open my big mouth in the store and stick my nose where it probably doesn't belong. Please please please fat parents out there, don't set your kids up for not only health problems but for cruel taunts as well.
