Anyway i thought i'd start this thread about all the latest news about ALS which is an incurable disease along with the others like Alzheimers and Parkinson's as being an aweful disease. Add any info to the thread anytime.
I wanted to add this since we have been discussing toxic proteins in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's but earlier this year researchers believe they possibly found the cause of ALS. They found that the other cells in the Spinal Cord the Astrocytes and the Microglia produce a toxic protein that may be killing off the nerve cells that cause this disease. Although they don't understand why this happens.

the first cases of MS were identified in the mid 1800's in Europe. They did not start in the 1930's
Your knowledge of MS is severely lacking, it is not a Brain Disease, it is a Neurological disease of the Central Nervous system. The Spinal cord is just as much attacked as the brain. MS and LGD and ALS are very different from each other. MS is your own immune system attacking the Meylin sheath surrounding the nerves within the CNS, MS is also not fatal.
Seems to be alot of buzz of a new drug called Iplex which is being developed and tested in Italy by the Biotech Insmed that seems to be helping people with ALS. Been reading about this on ALS-TDI which is one of the top ALS research institutions in the world.

Oh i don't expect any reply as i doubt that we have anyone with ALS as a member here but i just wanted to post this since these are the Science forums and most of us floating in these forums have an interest in some of the science's.
It would be nice if we could someday head off all those nasty diseases, even before they got started.
