Hello,
I fractured my tibia playing football. I had a rod and 6 screws put in on August 24th.
I'm starting to run on it and am wondering if the pain is normal or if maybe I should consider removing the screws.
What are your thougths on removing the screws? Are there any advantages to leaving the screws in? Is there more risk taking them out?
The doctor said that after six weeks the muscle should build but by that time I will be in south america, so I kind of need to know now if I need them removed.
Any help you can give would be great!
Thanks

ps Do you think three months is to early to Ski?

See your doctor again. Things do go wrong sometimes and running on it might have been the wrong thing to do right now.
Check with him. Maybe he would like to take some more x-rays to see if the bone has knitted properly

I'd ask all of these questions to your orthopedist. I wouldn't run on a leg that is causing pain after a fracture, even this many months after. I'd check with the doctor for sure. I'd ask the doc also what are the pro's and con's of leaving the screws where they are.

Yes,
I know I should talk to my doctor. I posted this thread because I want your guys opinions. I just wondered what you'alls thoughts were.
Whether the pain I have in my ankle shall remain because of the screws and I should take them out or the pain will go away as I build the muscle.
I don't want to hassle with takening them out but will if its necessary and will cause future problems.
I'd really appriciate any help, advice and any previous experiance.
thnk you

I've had 4 screws in my left femur neck since 1991 (skiing accident). My doctor recommended leaving them in place. I did not want to have another surgery and recovery period. I have never experienced any problems.
