Please get it checked out. I am a physician, not a lay person. However, I am not an ophthalmologist. Your spot is fixed, so it is not a floater. It may well be totally benign, but any visual blind spot that is enlarging must be checked. Do you have a local free clinic? We have one in my city that refers people to specialists at reduced or no cost.

If you don't know of a free clinic, call a local hospital, as they often have resources they can offer you. Or call your county medical association.

Don't ignore this. It's much better to find out you have something minor than to wait and later regret it.

How is your peripheral vision? Hold your arms straight out to the sides, wiggle your thumbs. You should be able to see both thumbs at the same time. Gradually move your arms around toward the front. If you have to move them more than about a foot before you can see the thumbs, or if they disappear into vision gaps where you can't see them, you probably have retinitis pigmentosa, which is very serious and untreatable, but it progresses slowly. Often people do not notice their lack of peripheral vision until blind spots begin to appear in the center of their field of view.
