I was researching a rumor I heard that one of the artifical sweetners kills ants...
Well...after that I stopped using all artifical sweetners!! I couldn't believe the horrible stuff I was reading! I am a diabetic and don't eat sweets, drink seltzer water for a carbonated beverage, and have eliminated sugar in my coffee. I use Agave Nectar in my tea which supposedly has a low glycemic index. Takes very good...made from some cactus.

YES! My acupuncturist recommended agave nectar too. I haven't been able to figure out how to make it portable to take with me and put in my morning Starbucks, but I've used it in congee recipes and it does taste very good.

I also use the Agave nectar. I never drink soda, instead I use sparkling water and add a bit of fruit juice, pomegranate, for example - tasty and not much sugar.

Aspartame will trigger a migraine in me in *moments*. Years ago, I quit drinking soda completely because I could never be sure at fast food joints that I wouldn't get diet soda by mistake. Watch out for gum--I never chew it, but someone's little child offered me some, so I took it, never thinking about it. It contained aspartame and a second later, the migraine hit.

I am usually okay with Splenda; however, I try to minimize using products with any kind of artificial sweetner because I don't need to wonder about whether the latest of my frequent migraines "might have been caused" by the artificial sweetner in the last thing I ate.

Several years ago, my doctor said there was no real evidence that Aspartame caused migraines. But he then ruefully admitted that both his wife and his brother suffered from migraines and both triggered from aspartame.

Why not just use fresh fruit juice with some carbonated water in it?
I am sure there is a known association between artificial sweetners/colorings and flavorings and behavioural probs.
Of course Coke contains caffeine too.
I remember going to a friends with my son when he was 3.He mostly drinks water or water with a touch of fruit juice ,but as a treat I let him have 2 small galsses of a sugar free 7 up type drink. It took me hours to get him to go to sleep that night when usually he would be no problem.
A friend has a son with bad ADHD and she doesn't let him have any artificial colors or presevatives.

Splenda gives my mother inlaw the runs, which I don't know which is sadder, the fact that it happens, or the fact that I know this about my mother inlaw.
