I just got an email from my neighbor, saying that a neurologist says he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke if the person is treated within 3 hours.
These are three questions doctors say you can ask to help determine if a person is having a stroke: 1] ask the person to SMILE 2] ask the person to TALK-speak a simple sentence i.e. 'it is sunny outside.' 3] ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS Also, ask the person to open his or her mouth and STICK OUT THEIR TONGUE. If the tongue is 'crooked'-goes off to one side or the other, this can be an indication of a stroke. If the person has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. Thought I would pass this along. It does not hurt to take an aspirin as soon as any symptoms begin, this goes with heart attack signs too.

Thank you, Fuzzymystic.
This email is going around, and according to Snopes, its information is sound, though the tongue thing seems kinda tricky to me. Years and years ago my dad had a stroke, and I remember the emergency personnel asked him to raise his right arm and he unknowingly raised his left. The whole right side of his body was temporarily paralyzed. |
