Around here it seems that it is just "Take two and you'll be fine," that's all they do around here, stuff drugs in you and don't even have the courtesy to say what they are for. Like the intestinal infection I had, had to describe the symptoms I had to someone else to find out what it was, and what possibly caused it, my doctor just shoved 4 kinds of meds in me. They like this anywhere else?
Yes its been like that for years!! Thats why I always check online before I take any kind of pill they give me..

In my opinion from seeing so many there’s several things going on in today’s medicine, cost of malpractice which became so high in certain areas of the country account well a few quacks but mainly out of control lawsuits within the local legal system, it’s gotten so bad in some areas doc’s literally shut practice down and went elsewhere in non practice, then some just flat out bypassing the patients problem and shifting it over to another as in go see a specialist then the specialist looks at the patient and says why are you here your GP should be treating this, then the poor patient becomes a rubber ball being bounced from one to the other and nothing actually being done about the problem.

Some just plain money, the plan, association, group says you see this many patients per day or limit your time to x amount per patient, other high priority then it’s more time added but more charge, I’ve heard some making it almost a game of who can see the most per day or week in the group.

Then let’s factor in which ins company it may be, which type policy, great ins company that pays out good and fast well good care, lousy ins well not so good, HMO’S well won’t even get into that mess, Medicare docs are sick and tired of waiting to be paid (what little they will receive ) so as we see some are limiting practice to few if any.

The quality of care from what I see is the younger doc’s not all but many it’s just not there, half couldn’t diagnose gall stones instead they would be running heart tests on patients or passing it of as something insignificant, joint problems their favorites are just a lil strain on the muscle tissues, possible tendinitis, bursitis, here’s a script for ibuprofen, half don’t even listen or quit listening part way through a patients complaints and take it upon themselves to already form an opinion even before a patient talks of what would tip off the doc on what the problem is, some only qualified to diagnose colds and hemorrhoids it seems makes one wonder were their head was in med schooling, get full copies of all your med reports sometime from your doc, you’d be surprised at what might be in them and what they missed.

Some on an ego trip of sort it seems having a cockiness about them, specialists are good for that half of which I have no use for, some for instance will make comments if another doc says the problem could be this or that then you tell the so called specialist what your doc said and they make snide comments about it and develop an attitude, seen some even trying to discredit other docs, seen some literally slam films up on light boards then jerk them down tossing them onto the floor making comments of other doc’s not knowing anything and they know it all, common a**holes, heard a cardiologist one day complaining about another stating yup just a so and so wanting to play cardiologist with his stethoscope.

The better of doc’s in just my own opinion are the old timers that have been around the block many times, not afraid to order tests, know how to get around road blocks thrown up by ins companies and not afraid to stick their neck out a bit, don’t check beeper for time in and when times up, know how to run a practice efficiently seeing the most patients possible but yet not sacrificing care for the almighty dollar.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not bashing all doc’s just let’s say 60-70% of them, the other 30-40% super doc’s in my opinion that go over and beyond what is needed and actually care, West Virginia university med in Morgantown has a doc up there Alan Ducatman although in occupational med is top in his field best doc a person could ever ask for, Muhammad Taher Al-Lozi , doc over at wash university in st louis super doc that does work in muscular dystrophy and other neuro, just a shame we don’t have more like them.

Yes, there are good docs out there, but I've had fairly bad luck in general with docs--so much so that I educate myself about whatever is going on and then go in and state nicely what I think I need. Most of the time that works pretty well--my health has gotten better in general--I had some pretty bad health problems as a kid, but those are pretty well resolved now. I have found some natural remedies that work better than anything I can get from a drugstore, and there are some drugs and tests I won't have anything to do with, like mammograms and cholesterol lowering drugs. For a timid person, I'm pretty assertive with the docs about what I will and won't do.

I am with stepka in seeming to have bad luck with doctors. All they seem to want to do now is sell more drugs, to cover symptoms rather than find the cause of your problem and fix that or put you on drugs that you have to take forever.

The last 2 MD's I saw walked in the room and first thing out of their mouth was "I see you are not on a statin drug, we need to get you on one."... and it was on my chart I will NOT take them again..

I recently decided to find myself a new doctor and without asking me one thing about why I was there, He made that statin drug comment and handed me 2 Rx's and a sample pack of pills to take, I asked what they were and what they were for... he was giving me antidepressants, and I am the happiest person you ever saw! Boy, I got out of there and will not go back.

Even the eye doctor I saw the other day brought up cholesterol, soon as she walked in the room..

My cholesterol is NOT to high, it was to low (in my opinion and the reason I was feeling so bad) I have added more fat to my diet and am feeling better WITHOUT any drugs thank you!

All they seem to want to do is cover up your symptoms with drugs and send you home. I avoid doctors now and aviod their drugs.

Yes I have noticed and its gotten much worse. I don't know if its worse because I moved 3 years ago and the type of doctors seem different to me in this region of the country or what. Let me tell you changing doctors when we move can be a very traumatic experience. All I know is when I go here in Portland, I sit in a chair and the doctor sits in front of a computer. It is obvious they don't remember a thing about my health situation or me period. He or she asks some questions, maybe does a little exam and thats its. I have had to tell one doctors office I am allergic to asprin and am on diabetes medications twice now. This being after that doctor had given me the script for the medications 3 months prior. The only real conversation spoken is more pills or different pills. Its a very impersonal experience and I did not have doctors visits like this before I moved to Portland. I have changed primary care/Internal Medicine doctors 7 times in 3 years now. Of course the physician population where I moved from did not seem as transient as it appears to be here in Portland. I think that may be a big part of the problem, doctors seem to come and go here quite frequently. It is very difficult to find a doctor that is accepting new patients let alone one that remains in the particular practice or has any time for the patient. I actually can't stand going to the doctors anymore. What really gets me going is when the bills come. After all the insurance pays there is still bills, all for the miserable experience of going to the doctors. Yes I definitely have noticed doctors are not nearly as good as they should be. I definitely feel that observation can be much more prevelent from one region of the country to another.

Hi,

There will always be dr's, all are taught to administer drugs, etc. when all they do is treat symptoms. The real culprit occurs in the brain, The central nervous center that controls every impulse in every inch of our bodies.

We need to treat the brain with nutrition. If you can imagine taking drugs for the rest of your life and it only masks the systems, but you still have the same problem for life.

Let's look at this. Does the pharmaceutical company give you money to use their drugs. NO?
Well, what if you were paid to use your own products, get a check in the mail for doing so...or nothing, and get paid if others use their products without talking to them.

Yes, I was surprised when I ordered a product from someone, at wholesale, and I was automatically qualified to receive a check in the mail, without asking.

Give me a holler at 224 653 8574, or email me at tyboo5856@yahoo.com.

Oh, I was working with a Iridologist , and when she looked into my eyes with this light, she told me all the aillments, etc that I had without me telling her in advance. She told me to use this product and that product and I never felt better in my life.

She will be in different areas of the country, so you may want to find out where she will be next.

Good Health to you!!!

maybe the " good doctors" are gone, because of incessant complainers and sue-happy patients who will never be happy....

I thik a part of it is that as medical science progresses, so many more diseases and conditions are identified that it is impossible for one person - the doc - to actually recognize them all. What they can, and frequently, do, is rule out the most likely according to the symptoms presented. It's the 'if it quacks like a duck, etc' it probably is a duck. Only more tests can tell if it's really a duck or something disguising itself as a duck. But there are also a lot of the "I am God and I Know Best" types out there practicing medicine, too. My favorite - not! - was one who decided I simply needed new glasses, in spite of me telling her I'd been wearing glasses since before she was born and I KNEW when something was wrong with my eyes, besides having had cataracts removed and lens implants so I didn't actually need glasses anymore, anyway. As it turned out, what I have is slowly disintegrating corneas, and at this point although I can see well enough to walk around town, I'm legally blind.

I have plenty of other similar stories, but they are too depressing to go into.

Much of what we see in the medical profession we brought upon ourselves. Medical pros fear lawsuits for any of a number of reasons. If there isn't tangible proff, such as a positive medical tests, doctors seldom try to treat the condition. Many of us had doctors at one time who would at least try and if one thing didn't work then they tried something else. In most cases they were able to resolve a persons problem with this method. It seems today that doctors not only have to treat a malady but also be able to prove to a court of law the correct diagnosis and treatment. America you asked for it and you got it.
