If someone needs to smoke, then at least keep it in a well ventilated area, meaning outside, not around others who choose not to be exposed to it or children who cannot fend for themselves.
Yes, it has been said...without the support of real science to back up that ridiculous claim.

OSHA's independent study (ie, no money received from Big Pharma who are cashing in on nicotine products, Big Tobacco, or the Anti-Smoking Nazis) has been buried for years while junk science has fed the flames of hypochondriacal hysteria.

I posted on this very subject in another thread:

I have said it time and time again, and I will say it again: I have worked in healthcare for more than 10 years as a coder. I have worked on hundreds of thousands of charts, ER and inpatient, in about 28 facilities in 7 or 8 states...and I have NEVER SEEN ONE CASE OF ILLNESS OR DEATH CAUSED BY SECONDHAND SMOKE.

IT'S A LIE.

Wow! Good link and good data.

Of course, I doubt it will do any good as it appears people WANT to be frightened.

No I'm not.

Did it ever occur to you that I do not hold your line of thinking to be the ultimate truth? You don't know anymore than I do in regards to destiny or God. I happen to believe that we make decisions that may shorten or expand our life span. There is plenty of scientific evidence to back this point of view. On the other hand there are plenty of things in our life that we have no control over. Again, I prefer to err on the side of caution and respect for the body I was given. Not a tough concept to grasp. There is no contradiction- if I am able to make to the finish line I'd prefer not be wheezing or gasping for air when I do. I will also choose to take care of my body for this present moment as well as the possible future.

Maybe you should accept your destiny and quit bellyaching about it? The other option would be to quit smoking.

No thanks. It's pretty clear that it's your destiny to validate treating your body like a toxic waste dump; I'm sure you can find something in the bible to validate that.

I do not hold your line of reasoning either, but I'm not trying force my beliefs on you, nor am I insisting you stay away from me because we disagree about it. Neither do I advocate you paying additional taxes for practicing your beliefs.

If you, and those like you, would offer me the same courtesy, we could all get along just fine.

Not to mention, of course, the additives, pesticides and growth hormones which you'll eat with your sandwich for lunch, even if that's only a genetically engineered "healthy" salad. The car or bus you ride to work will belch dangerous fumes the whole way and the interior, made mostly of plastic (a hydrocarbon derivative) will be giving off a steady, unseen, invisible haze of toxic chemicals while you calmly listen to a CD and congratulate yourself on "living healthy" and giving up those "dangerous" smokes. Then, when you get home, you can sit in your beautifully paneled living room, which exudes formaldihyde constantly, and breath in the radon gas trapped underneath your foundation. Tonight, you'll wrap yourself in a comfortable, toxic blanket and inhale fibers from it all night long.
My paneled house....ohhh is this the 70's or something haha I guess you don't read the green forum now do you!!! I think I can do better than you just described

Ok, forget the wood paneling and substitute toxic Chinese drywall.

And, maybe you can do "better," but you can't avoid it totally.

True!!! I do ligten my toxic load though I have super good days doing it. Are you able to take much excercise with the amount of ciggies? Yoga, jogging? Dog walking? I suppose you are left with little time though with all the ciggie smoking though

I quit smoking 7 years ago because it has a white trash/redneck stigma, and most middle and upper class people have quit smoking. I felt guilty blowing smoke on other people, and my friends and familiy told me I smelled bad.

But why is it that it has become a poor people's habit? How can they afford it? When you see a fast food worker on a smoke break behind the restaurant, I wonder how can they afford a 40 dollar a carton habit?

The smokers really do look like fools huddled up in terrible weather smoking outside, because they can't smoke indoors, spending big bucks on such a silly habit, with bad smells radiating off of them. I know - I was once one of those fools.
