What is this? Acid in throat?
Woke up at 6am with what was like a capful of acid tasting stuff at the top of my throat. Had to swallow several times and had terrrible burning in my throat. Felt like my throat was on fire. This never happened before. Anyone know what this was?

It's not necessary to have a hiatal hernia to have acid reflux. But it does sound like acid reflux.

sounds like acid reflux. think about what you ate yesterday, especially before bed. those could be your triggers. If you eat the same thing and it happens again, obviously try to avoid them. Or it could have just been a one-time thing. I actually felt that way yesterday too! I decided to try some tea and crackers late in the evening before I went to bed. this seemed to help.

Yes, it sounds like acid reflux. You need to sit up for 2-3 hours after eating to avoid it.

I did have a bowl of cereal late right before I went to bed. Usually I do not eat after 9pm. Maybe that did it. Thanx for your help.

That did do it. Yeah! No more heartburn!
If you do eat close to bed you should have a big glass of water too and walk around a little bit to get it moving through you.

That does sound like acid reflux. I'm not a medical doctor but I am a dentist and I can tell you that some people who do experience this at nighttime and then wake up in the morning with that bad taste, sometimes have erosion on their teeth on that side they sleep on. For example, if you sleep with your head to the right, expect to see erosion on the teeth in the lower right quadrant. Not saying this happens to everyone, but it can happen. Just be careful that's all.

There are a number of drugs you can take and some natural remedies for acid reflux. But the simplest is to only eat a small meal in the evening and take some digestive enzymes (you can get the digestive enzymes at Walmart for cheap). That may be enough to fix you up or an acid reducing menu plan.
If you take the medicine (like Nexium or Prilosec) you will often end up taking them from now on.

Acid Reflux. Don't eat after dinner. You can prop yourself up at night with some more pillows and that helps. Take one of the over-the-counter acid reflux medications first thing in the morning. You want to control it as continued acid in the throat can cause serious health problems after awhile.
