Default Period Twice in One Month

Hi everyone, quick rundown on me: college student who is not sexually active, 20 yrs old & not on birth control. Long story short: stress really affects my period & I haven't had a normal flow since October (November I skipped due to a breakup , December I spotted & I got it in January over the MLK holiday (it was only about 4 days though...)

My periods usually last for about 5-6 days & go from heavy to light. I went to the restroom this morning around 7am & found the toilet bowl red (sorry for the image) & I put on a pad, but then this morning around 10 & it was more brown than red...

What is going on? I've had irregular periods since I was 11 but now that I'm 20, they have been acting up more than ever...I told my mom & she said that the next time I come home, we'd visit an ob-gyn...Is this normal?

If your periods are not regular I wouldn't worry too much. But mom knows best, and a visit to your GYN is in order. Brown blood is usually old blood so it could be the stress is wrecking havoc on your system. Try to reduce the stress if possible.

Don't feel bad, I had my period on January 5th and got it again on my birthday January 17th. But I just turned 48. Same weekend as you...maybe it was a full moon?

I've never had a "regular" period. Assuming that you're in good health and go to the GYN regularly, this is probably "just one of those things".

I would just go get a check up if your fertility is important to your future. Since you just got out of a relationship I would get a full screening for all stds as well. I personally was never regular until after 23 and I was healthy. The body can double ovulate though which would cause the double period and happens to people as they get regular.

Some women have bleeding during ovulation.

I recommend the book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler to every woman out there. Every woman should have a basic knowledge of how her body works, and it will help you determine if you actually have a problem and need to see and doctor.

Might want to have your thyroid checked out, it can cause lots of things.
Good luck.

Your doctor will get you straightened out, but in the meantime, don't worry about it. Many women have irregular periods.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's only the second day so my flow is still heavy (again, sorry for the graphic nature of the post). Anyway, I'm wondering if I should even expect it for the month of February? I'm going to the Dr.'s next month when I go home for the weekend...
