Osmoprep comes in tablet form now, although in hindsight, taking 4 pills every 15 minutes with 8 oz of water was torture. And then after those 20 pills, the "fun" immediately begins. Then repeat the next day for the rest of the 12. The worse part is going hungry!

Have had both more then once...makes NO difference what you eat or drink...you will have to drink a solution to cleanse the digestive track from the stomach down to the rectum.

From the mouth, they will insert a scope with a camera to see and maybe remove a nodule from the stomach (while your awake)(looking for cancer). You will be given a solution in a small cup that will numb the mouth and throat so there is no feeling other then your mind playing tricks. I felt a nudge when the Dr hit my stomach and I flinched. Oooops...sorry about that he said.

From the rectum...they will insert a scope (similiar to above) also looking for any nodules etc.

This will be a little uncomfortable...but you will be asleep during the procedure... after a while then later released to have a large breakfast.

Relax...looking for positive results is the name of the game.

I have had several colonoscopies over the years and I was never anesthetized.
I was fully awake and could watch the procedure on the TV screen and discuss it with the doctor.

Except for some pain when the camera goes around the corners, the worst part was drinking the gallon of laxative prior to the procedure.

My gastroenterologist did both procedures at the same time. I was out like a light - at least I remember nothing - for both of them. I would much rather do it that way than have to be awake for the endo. Turned out I had H.Pylori in my stomach and 2 pre-cancerous polyps in the other end. So I am very glad I had both done; colonoscopy to be repeated in just under 5 yrs. I had 4 antibiotics to take, 2 twice a day and 2 4 times a day and in 1 week I felt much better and knew the H.pylori was gone.
