I'm in my 70's and have worn a size 8 shoe for all my adult life. Within less than 3 years I have gone from an 8 to a 9 1/2. I'm getting tired of having to buy new shoes before I've worn out the old ones. Are there any older members here who are having the same thing happen? Noses and ears never stop growing.....but FEET??? My feet are not swollen and there doesn't seem to be any change in my arches. I'm mystified.
I am only 52,and my feet grew bigger years ago!I always thought it was because I stood at my job for over 25 years.I thought that was making my feet flatten and spread. My feet went from an 8,to currently a 9.My husband is only 40 and he wore a 10 1/2 when we met,was buying an 11 recently, yesterday had to buy a 11 1/2. Can't believe it took you so long!
I was a nurse and was on my feet a lot during my 44 years in the working world but I've been retired for 8 years. Don't spend near as much time on my feet today as I did for the first 66 years.
I thought it was just me but looks like the feet getting bigger in the later years is not uncommon. And all this time I thought it was just butts, noses and ears that continued growing.........
I'm going to propose a theory. After I had my first child, my shoe size went up a full size. I asked my doctor why this was and he said that fluid retention does get into the tissue/cartilege, whatever in the bones of the feet causing the expansion. However, unlike the rest of you which could shrink after the baby's birth,it seems to stay there. My theory is that as metabolism slows with age, more fluid is retained in those tissues causing the expansion. Yes? Whaddya all think?
