I avoid HFCS as much as I possibly can.
However, I don't think of sugar as a convenient, nutritious replacement for it.
All Americans, especially the ones who are overweight, would improve their health by reducing their intake of cane sugar along with HFCS.
To me its a big concern that ppl will start viewing regular sugar as a suitable alternative to HFCS. HFCS is worse but plain old sugar is only a few steps behind it in terms of damage to the body.
Taking too much of anything is bad for you, and since it's in so many things and people are already gulping down too much of course it's going to be bad for you. I can't see switching to sugar being better, as HFCS is sweeter then sugar...so you need a bit more sugar to get really the same flavor in foods.
I like the Stevia artificial sweeteners, they are strong (use little of it) and taste like real sugar. Be nice if they made it into soda, though Aspartame is nice to rot my brain instead of my teeth and my waist.
For years, I have been using the natural product Stevia, I like the natural flavored ones by Sweet Leaf, orange, chocolate raspberry. I like to sweeten my tea, only need 2 tiny drops in 8 oz of the tea, then I sweeten the distilled water 32 oz of water with just 5 drops. I love honey too. I never used corn syrup tho and glad I didnt like the taste of it.
