I do have to say I agree with a good bit you have posted. I have doubts about statin drugs. Of course the medicalization of society is big issue for me also.
And how the drugs companies and AMA are in cahoots.
IMHO 2nd to politics, healthcare runs on its heels as one of the biigest scams out there.
A number of people I know were actually healthier and had less other problems before being prescribed statins. I wonder why.

I dunno....drug companies and doctors are the ones who write these and they can list it any way they want, and do. There's no money in cures for anything. Drug companies are big business. I know people scoff at Kevin Trudeau but you should really pay closer attention to him. He'll give you information like what's posted here. Not sure where this info came from but here's something everyone should watch--whether they have cancer or not. This is the short version. It should substantiate a lot of what is said in this thread (by O/P).
THE GERSON INSTITUTE on Yahoo! Video (http://video.yahoo.com/watch/377688/2286366 - broken link)
Here's their site and the video in it's entirety is on there too.

For video (it's kind of hard to find) click 'View the Gerson Miracle documentary online'. It's on the left side of the page under Quick Links. Next, click 'Play online'. It's on the right hand side of the page. It will take you to a registration page but don't worry, you won't be bombarded with junk mail. This video has information that will blow you away, a must for anyone who takes prescription medications or has a loved one who does.

I have right here on my desk, Dr. Golombs of the University of California, San Diego, California, USA finding on statin drug side effects who did a very in depth study of the AE's (adverse events) of statin drugs. The report I have costs $64 and is not online for free. She just put out the word she was doing a study and people responded (I was one of them). Many, many people were sent detailed forms to fill out (I have no idea how many as the final report did not say). This study was very detailed. A month later she would send you another one to fill out and a month or so later, she would send you another just to see how consistant your answers were. Many who have suffered are seeking her out for advice on how to recover. Recovery is SLOW for some of the side effects, some never recover, some recover only to develope new problems. It pretty much backs up a lot of what this OP said about the side effects.
More and more it is coming to light and it will continue to come out (The world is waking up and more and more doctors are too!). I suffered horrible side effects on it, including confusion and memory loss, loss of energy, pain, lived in a fog, and lots more that I won't bore you with. I have been off of them 3 years July 2009 and I am still suffering with the damage it has done to my body. When first put on them, I was healthy and was taking nothing but those.. A year later, I had a bag full of medication I was taking.. Since being off, I am on NONE again. I told my kids, I may drop dead tomorrow of a heart attack (don't think I will tho) but at least I had a life and remembered who they were until the end.. I had NO life on statins.
I know 2 other people who were on statins, one was loosing his life the same way I was (no energy, in pain and lots of other statin drug related side effects that was taking his life away from him) and another that had a TGA episode that no medical reason was ever found to have caused. After talking to me, he realized how many other side effects he was having, also just about a complete loss of energy that had stolen his life like it did mine. They both have quit the drug and made remarkable improvement in their lives.
I am no expert but I have come to recognize the "statin shuffle" when I see someone walk (I was familiar with it because I did it myself) and the confusion/forgetfulness. I always ask them if they are on a statin and always get "yes....why?"...I recently met a guy in his 30's who had a brace on his arm from wrist to shoulder. He had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in his wrist and tendon problems in his shoulder and was on STATIN DRUGS! BINGO! (I only wore the wrist brace at night and have just suffered with the tendinitis in the shoulder rather than take their drugs for it..
I fully agree, some people should be on them MAYBE! But certianly not everyone who walks into a doctors office. I saw 2 new doctors in about a week and the first thing they both said to me was "I see you are not on a cholesterol drug, we need to get you on one right away!" and that was before they even knew what my cholesterol levels were! No thanks, I have lowered mine eating right and lost 40 pounds to boot... the 40 pounds I gained while on the statin....

Some people have a hard time without the drugs due to genetics, though rarer, it's not all diet all the time. I knew a woman who was strict vegan, exercised like mad...still had pretty frighteningly high cholesterol levels without statins. Plus if your cholesterol is that bad when you start, it's nice to have the added protection while using diet to lower it.

ALL MAN MADE DRUGS ARE POISON AND HAVE A SIDE EFFECTS.
What do you do, when the four new bypass arteries are filled naturally with plaque that is over produced by your body in 60 days? Do you say NO DRUGS DOC and die at fifty, or do you take the drugs, eat a heart healty diet, and die a natural death at 85? I think the choice is clear. been there and doing it for 15 years and still living the good life on STATIN DRUGS at age 81.
My mother-in-lived to be 99 on STATIN DRUGS after a stroke at age 60. Her four sons had heart surgery the same month. A daughter and son died from lung problems; both had heart surgery for PMV. Two of her children have Macular Degeneration. Three of her childen had cancer. It wasn't drugs that caused it.
The doctors who do not know how to manage drugs are far more dangerous. Doctors who are paid by hospitals to NOT give quality care are more dangerous.
One of the HMO doctors killed a brother-in-law from ignorance. He had a spot on his lung and he complained for two years, He lived less than 14 days after the good doctor finally decided to do something pro-active and sent him to a lung doctor. He never got there. He went to hospital and died 10 days later. I hope the HMO doctors who do these things in yhe name of money live an eternal life in very hot flames.

My cholestrol was at 200 at age 40 on a normal diet and 200 at age 65 after 15 years of a healthy heart diet. I do not take drugs and I do not do anythig unusual to try to lower it. The natural overproduction of cholesterol almost killed my spouse and brothers. My grandmother lived to be 98.
Her daughter lived to be 85. She mgiht have lived longer had she not gotten breast cancer at age 81.

I've taken Tricor (a nonstatin) for years and it does lower my cholesterol. But I believe I do have side effects even from this drug.
My cholesterol is down to 203 which I think is quite good but now these doctors want everything below 200, etc. He wants me to take a very low dose of Crestor in addition to the Tricor, and I won't do it. Enough is enough, since I do already have fatigue and aches.
