I do not know how many of you people reading this post have a clue as to what Phytosterols/ Plant Sterols/ Plant Sterol Esters are, but they put them in vitamins and the so-called Natural Cholesterol supplements which are just as bad as the Statin drugs. Which by the way, no one needs them. It is just all about making money, while damaging your HEALTH. ================================================== =This is very dangerous to your health, let me tell you about Phytosterols or you can call them Plant Sterols. I am not familiar with the phytosterols being added to the foods you talk about however I think you are doing a great disservice to your readers by lumping all phytosterol supplements into the same category. I know many women in my home town taking a phytosterol supplement produced by a neutraceutical company. It eliminates or greatly reduces their PMS symptoms. If they are already in the stages of menopause it eliminates their hot flashes. If they have not started hot flashes they never get them. My wife is 47 and takes the nutraceutical phytosterols regularly. She has only had two hot flashes in recent years. By the time her mother and her sisters were her age they all had hysterectomies. My wife has regular breast and pelvic exams and is not showing any symptoms of needing a hysterectomy or any other female problems. I also take the same supplement on a regular basis. I am 50 years old with no health problems and no prescriptions.

Would you care to provide references for your concerns?

Although the presence of industrial waste is of significant ecological importance, I doubt that most of us will be drinking the effluent from wood pulp mills. I cannot find any references to phytosterols and cancer or elevated calcium levels. There are no plant products that will reliably induce abortion in humans. Ergot is a fungus that can do so, but that is not a phytosterol.

Phytoesterols are natural plant substances and are found in many foods. To eliminate them from the diet would leave very little to eat. Phytosterols do decrease cholesterol levels by reducing its absorption, and cholesterol is very definitely involved in cardiovascular disease. The amounts of phytosterols added to margarine are small, and margarine should be a relatively small part of anyone's diet. I have never heard these kinds of things about sterols. I thought that they were plant fats or plant cholesterol. Shouldn't that be good for you? I mean, if you eat raw vegetables, aren't you getting natural plant sterols (or is it sterolins, I can't ever remember)?
