Question uh oh-think I have shingles-again

I had shingles about 15 years ago. Was to date THE worst experience in my life, health wise. Only had 4 blisters too.
Past few days I've been achy, tired, feverish. Then 2 days ago a spot on my back began itching(uh oh) and I'm just not the type to have itchy skin. Didn't occur to me right then but now after 2+ days of intense itching I got a look at my back via the bathroom mirror and a handheld mirror. Saw 2-3 blisters.
I did see a doctor with my last bout of these awful things but don't recall that he did much to help me.
Maybe medicines have changed in the last 15 years, so I wondered if anyone here has had shingles and what,if anything, was given to you? I'm thinking I'll just ride this out and deal with it at home.
Other than the intense itching, I still feel just yucky, tired, not too hungry.

Some topical prescription ointment was what I was given last year. Even then the diagnosis was shaky- my regular Dr. originally thought spider bite, didn't go away Dr. I saw the next week thought shingles (my regular was off, her partner), my regular the next week thought excema. All up and down my arm.

Dont ride it out Dreamweavin,

I had them about five years ago when I was going through a stressfull period in my life. Many doctors believe that they are caused by stress. If you don't treat them right away and with medicine, there is a good chance that they don't go away. I had mine around Christmas time, didn't know what I had, so I waited to see a doctor til after Christmas. I had them on one half side of my stomach. They began to hurt and I needed pain medication. The doctor told me that since I waited that there was a good chance that the medicine they gave me would not get rid of them, lucky for me, that within a month, they eventually went away. But I was told that the longer you wait without treatment that the better chance that they might never get better. I actually thought that they would never get better. I got lucky seing how I waited over a week from when I first noticed them to when I took any thing for them.

Don't wait, get them treated immediately! I'm serious, they can be dangerous and very painful.

Good luck with getting them treated.....

Rick

Shingles is a herpes inflammation. Use L-Lysine. It will work wonders. It will not cure it, but it will stop it in its tracks and not let it get any worse. So start taking it as early as possible.

I had chicken pox as an adult. Since I am the queen of Herpes, I knew that it was a herpes inflammation as well, so I started pounding the L-Lysine. The whole episode lasted less than five days. The doctor told me he had never seen anyone recover so quickly from chicken pox before in his life. Of course, he would not admit that the L-Lysine had anything to do with it.

So much suffering could be avoided if people knew about this treatment. It is truly miraculous.

Yes. The Walmart brand works fine for me (also Puritan's Pride). As far as dosage, you have to use trial and error. Enough to do the trick, but not so much you get the poopies. My dosage is three 500mg tablets four times a day. But everybody is different. You will notice a difference the second day. Not itching as much and not as tender to the touch. My fever blisters are gone in three days if I catch them before the "pop" out and are still at the "itchy lip" stage. If I wait until blisters appear, it takes a day or two longer.

Best of luck. I hear it's such a painful thing to have (Shingles). I guess it's the sores INSIDE that hurt so much. Having had Chicken Pox, I am just waiting for the day! I keep LOTS AND LOTS of Lysine on hand, just in case the FDA decides to make supplements prescription only. It's my greatest fear.

Unfortunately, Chickenpox is caused by a virus named Varicella zoster virus (VZV) and like many viruses they live with you for the rest of your life (almost always in your nervous system). And sometimes they come out, and when they do is called shingles. You should take antivirus withing 78 hours, so if you have them I would suggest saying your doctor ASAP, if not, well it could last longer no big deal, serious complication are rare.

I had shingles last year. CJMA is completely correct. Has to be treated very quickly or can become chronic. Had pain first, then spots, so was wrongly diagnosed at first. As soon as the spots appeared, I received medication and all was fine. But very painful. I had it on my leg!

yea, last time I had it was on my upper thigh. Even with doctor's care I suffered with it from October until February.
My daughter got shingles on her stomach while under stress from college. She barely had any pain then but suffers occasional pain now--4 years later.
