White House issues advisory after Obama Mexico trip

(Politico) -- The White House is issuing a health advisory outlining "protective measures" for anyone who traveled on President Barack Obama's trip to Mexico, after a member of the U.S. delegation came down with flu-like symptoms - and tests on his family showed they're probably infected with the swine flu.

The individual - an advance security staffer for Energy Secretary Steven Chu -appears to have spread the flu to his wife, son and nephew. All three have tested probable for swine flu, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said....

I think all thread on this subject should be closed. Why, it is a health issue that we all need to be educated for. Do that by talking to your Doctors or health officals. Watch the news for the update by those who are putting them out that are in the power to do so. What could will it do to heart about how many will die and all that. Cancer kills people every year do you hide out waiting for it. There are tons of things that can make us sick germs live on us all the time.
Did they close the forth worth school until May 11th?

This flu is less common then the 'regular' flu...it is less severe then the 'regular' flu and it is completely treatable. Why is everyone freaking out?

Yes it's less common because this is a NEW flu virus
It seems to be less severe yet young healthy people in Mexico are dying.
Completely treatable ? No..there is no vaccine for it as it is a NEW strain.
As a new strain we have 0 immunity to it and that is why everyone world wide is getting infected.

This flu is treatable with Tamiflu and Relenza. Vaccines do not treat anything. The regular flu kills many more then this flu thus far... Most of the Americans that have contracted this flu have gone untreated...AND LIVED.

I second that

And yes it still is less severe than the regular flu. I bet it's been around for a while now and something in the enviornment caused these people to get really sick.

Still, ONLY 9 PEOPLE DIED IN MEXICO and only ONE IN THE US

An H1N1 virus was in this year's flu vaccine and the proper annotation for it is "A/Brisbane/59/2007(H1N1)-like virus". http://www.cdc.gov/flu/flu_vaccine_updates.htm (broken link) According to the CDC, the vaccine "can make your illness milder if you get a related but different influenza virus strain." Among other things, this was a strain first isolated in Brisbane in 2007, kind of like what's happening now. The current outbreak is being caused by a slightly different virus than that one and will probably have a different designation based on origin.

Wonder why this isn't being discussed in the media? Hmmm. One can only speculate.

For anyone wondering why so-called "healthy" adults have died in Mexico...it's MEXICO. Not exactly health central, unless you are one of the privileged few. I'd be interested in knowing each of the patients' history along with their socioeconomic status. Mexico, especially Mexico City, is rife with poverty, and where you have poverty, you have poor healthcare.

I believe that objection has been answered over and over again. Many times, on this and other threads.
