I haven't read all of this but....Some doctors are very good, some are very bad. I've run across both ends of the spectrum. That said, I think a lot of doctors get burnt out, especially when people come in and incessantly complain about minor things or self inflicted problems. I think the majority who had to listen and deal with that junk would slowly start to become apathetic. Basically, bad doctors make all doctors look bad to patients, and bad patients make all patients look bad to doctors. I know what I'm saying is not exactly enlightening, but that's my 2 cents anyways. lol

Doctors don't rule the world, just the health of most Americans. You can change that for yourself though.

I saw this article in yesterdays issue of the NY Times: The Lab Coat Is on the Hook in the Fight Against Germs

That is why we use it, for our protection, like it said, the coats gets all bacteria, protecting what ever the doctor has under the coat.
The problem is that physician don't clean the coat often, then it becomes a problem. They should not eliminate the white coat, they should order physicians to clean it every few days.

Actually, in the UK the white coat has been identified as a real problem in dissemination of bacteria, including MRSA and C difficile, and now physicians MUST wear only short-sleeved coats and, for men, no neckties. This, along with other containment procedures, has helped to drastically reduce the rate of MRSA carriage and infection in UK healthcare facilities.

I would think that a highly intelligent, highly trained professional would simply practice common sense and clean it frequently without being ordered to do so. If you don't mind discussing it, what is your criteria for when it needs to be cleaned?

I have heard about the neckties, but didn't hear about the sleeves.

I have 4 white coats, I wear each coat for only 2 days then, my wife cleans them (with bleach).
But some doctors just have them on their locker or office, who knows when they clean it since they usually leave them at the hospital.

They make me feel like I'm a criminal and its starting to pi$$ me off.
I'm I the only one who feels this way OR is it just me and I should chill out?
Many moon ago I used to go to the local VA clinic to "keep myself active" in the system (although there was never anything wrong with me when I went. Without fail, every single time I went, they scheduled me for a "fasting lab". Which I totally ignored. After about three years, the Doctor (who barely spoke English), mentioned that he did not have any information on any lab reports. I told him.... "I don't do labs". <<crickets>> He said. "you have to have lab report". I told him "I don't do labs".

My mother was constantly battling the health department where she goes to get her blood pressure checked on a regular basis. She was constantly being bombarded with people wanting her to take a mamogram, etc., She told them.... "Look, I'm 80 years old. If I die, I die. I'm not going to do that stuff". They stopped bothering her about it. (By the way, she does not take any high blood pressure medication. If her blood pressure is high, she treats it naturally).

You just have to stick to your guns and tell them NO. Remember it's all OPTIONAL. They can't force you to do anything.

No, I don't feel that way. In fact, my physican makes me feel like a "partner" in my health care.
