Be a big boy and GET UP AND WALK OUT. It is a real simple concept. If you are not happy with their service, why go find another.

I've had wonderful doctors and dismal docs...the trend seems to be toward real short office visits and script writing for meds these days...no more folk wisdom, everything has a price tag connected with it...most of the docs don't like it either, the insurance companies have a lot to do with the change in our care...it's a numbers game...

After six years of specialists, I've finally gotten a great doctor. I think about 80% are in it for the money or the ego. The rest are really amazing people.

Well those kinds of doctors can think what they like, they don't rule MY world! I DO!!!

I have managed through trial and error to find an excellent team of health care providers and we manage my health together. I respect them and they respect me.

Those doctors that I have come across that do seem to have a god complex very quickly find themselves out of a job with regard to me.

I have spent a good deal of time "interviewing" doctors to get the right ones for me and I think once you take a pro-active approach to your health and work WITH your doctor once trust and respect has been established, you really don't have the added stress of dealing with the wrong doctors for you.

I always seem to wind up with the worst of the lot when I pick a doctor. One beef with them is that they will only treat ONE complaint/problem you have per office visit. If you have another problem you need to address, you have to schedule another appointment for that problem.

They only seem trained to treat with medication now to cover up or mask your problem rather than actually fixing the problem. I am constantly having to tell them, "I don't want DRUGS! I want the problem FIXED!"

Last year I tried a new doctor because I was tired of having pills shoved at me all the time by my old one.. The new doctor was younger and I figured would do a better job... boy was I WRONG! He walked in before he ever set eyes on me the first time with drugs for me to start taking before he ever even knew what I was there for, one was a anti depressant/anxiety drug and he was giving me a 2 month supply of samples of the things . I was there for physical ailments! He was very rude and arguementive and acted like he thought I was a idiot, talking down to me in such a way that it was downright funny. The more he talked, the bigger idiot he showed himself to be.. I left there and never went back.

I have a dermatologist that I DO love and enjoy going to see and she treats me like a equal, a friend and always acts glad to see me. I also love my new eye doctor. I keep trying new doctors hoping I will luck up and get a PCP that KNOWS what they are doing and fix whatever is wrong rather than shove pills at me everytime I go. I am beginning to think those kind of doctors are a thing of the past.

I think it's more like Doctors WISH they ruled the world like they almost did a couple generations ago. For the most part they are mere pawns in the entire health care scam ruled by the insurance companies and big pharma. Used to be that the AMA was part of the ruling triad, but their power has dwindled over the years. My FIL is a retired physician, the kind that used to carry his little black bag to the home of his patients in the early years of his practice. I could sense a deep unhappiness during the latter years of his practice, so I asked him if he'd still become a physician if he was just starting out. Without hesitation he said, NO! He'd want nothing to do with it, since it was taken over by the insurance companies and big pharma.

IMO, the arrogance that many doctors attempt to project is really just a cover up for the tremendous frustration they feel in regard to their powerlessness in the health care scam. IMO, many, if not most of them, regret having become doctors.

I found one particular highly regarded medical center to have the most arrogant doctors, nurses, and research scientists I've ever met. It really turned me off doctors for awhile. I then found another center that had some of the most intelligent and kindest nurses and doctors. Honestly, some of the Ivy trained doctors and highly ranked medical centers have this idea that they are the best and smartest, and if you have a medical condition, you are an idiot if you need to see them. I don't care how good you are; if you don't respect me and treat me like a person rather than a case number, I'm outta there. I stay away from centers like that and have had wonderful doctor experiences since.

How do you interview a doctor, exactly? I mean, since ten minutes of their time costs you about a hundred bucks....and you might have to spend half the morning or afternoon sitting around their waiting rooms.

This is a very good point. I had a friend in college who was pre-med. He was absolutely brilliant, and one of the nicest guys I've ever met: really friendly and calming -- he would have been a fantastic general practitioner! But when it was time to start considering an area of practice he was looking into things like dermatology and plastic surgery. I asked him why, and he said it was because he didn't want to have to deal with insurance companies. I thought that was so sad. A lot of people are missing out on someone would have been a great famliy doc because of this.

On the other hand, it is a reality, that you have to deal with. Having worked as a medical biller, I had to obtain information (chart notes, pre-existing condition questionnaires, letters of medical necessity, etc) from doctors offices, and found they are either great or horrible. It was really frustrating and disenchanting (I had a great doctor growing up, so I had always had a high opion of doctors) to have doctors be rude to me to ignore my requests when I was looking for information. I had a nurse tell me once that taking a page out of a chart to fax to me was too much work. And a few weeks ago my co-worker contacted the a doctor's office for about the fifth time looking for information. The result was an angry phone call from the doctor telling her she was delaying his vacation with her request and that is was so typical that she had waited five months to contact him (actually, the first time she contacted his office was in December).

I realize it must be frustrating to have to deal with insurnace companies instead treating patients, but a doctor really isn't contributing positively to someone's health when they refuse to help get their $20,000 medical bill paid, either. I have seen a lot of accounts go to colletions because their doctor's were ucooperative about providing information.

I'm I the only one who feels this way OR is it just me and I should chill out?
Time to find a new doctor and if the new one acts the same way ... keep searching. You should ALWAYS feel like the two of you are working together for your health.
