Melatonine...I know others have said this...just want to add my 2 cents. It is natural...our bodies don't make as much as we age...
I buy the 3mg tablets. I started with one to see if that helped. I ended up taking 2 tablets...but that's just me.
However, one night I took 3 and felt like I had a hang over the next morning so be careful.
and it's not that expensive!
about 6 dollars for 100 tablets.
melatonin makes you sleep in a deeper sleep while you are sleeping so you feel more rested in the morning....(sounds like a comercial...lol)---but it was a life saver for me.

Melatonin gave me a major headache the next day. Other than going to the doctor I can't find anything that helps me sleep. All the otc give me restless leg syndrome.

I've been using Unisom for the past 2-3 months, sometimes along with a cheap Walmart allergy tablet (not the same ingredients). At least it helps me get some sleep...I have a lot of really bad nights, which is what menopause started in me!!!
After reading some of the experiences, I'm going to try melatonin though and see how that works for me!

Just an idea...maybe you took too much?
They also have 1mg tablets.
I know I also had a headache when I took too much.

Any good OTC stuff?
Most of them make you feel really groggy when you wake up.
I thought there might be something thats OTC now.

At the health food store like Vitamin Cottage or Whole Foods in Colorado...Bach Flower Remedies sells a sleep aid...does not make you groggy. My S.O. swears by it. Some people use Melitonin, an OTC pill. Or just see what the health food store suggests.

Thanks, Moonlady...I had forgotten about the calcium/magnesium. That works for me also. Very relaxing.

Well it's 4AM and I am awake. What does that tell you? I have been on ambien or Lunesta for years, now sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I woke up at 2:30, went to bed at 10pm, fell asleep rather quickly which is not like me. Woke up and I had no electricity. Now I can not go back to sleep. I am looking into Valerian, Lavender and other essential oils. I didn't know about calcium/mag. I tried melatonin years ago, maybe I will give it another shot also.
