I had Graves disease, thyroid was 4 times the normal size when they finally made the diagnoses, bc of the treatment I choose,I'm hypothroid now, I take full replacement. So, I went from being underweight to about 30 pounds over what would be normal. I have to watch every thing I eat. It's a struggle.

I have hypothyroidism. I was able to lose a lot of weight at one time (gained it back and more) but it was a lot of work, eating very little and having to exercise SO much.

Interesting. I found out today I have hypothyroidism. I've had the symptoms for quite a while but thought it was because I was anemic because of my insanely heavy periods.

The only reason my doctor decided to check my thyroid was because I didn't want an endometrial ablation or a hysterctomy. When she saw the numbers on my blood test she was surprised at how I was able to function. She said the underactive thyroid was the reason for my heavy periods, anemia and overall bad health I have been feeling.

The reason I asked about the weight is because the odd thing is I've lost close to 30 pounds since September. I was overweight since the birth of my daughter almost 4 years ago. In Sept I started walking and practicing yoga. I do eat very little though and I walk every morning and practice yoga every night. So maybe that has helped.

I'm going to start my medication as soon as it's ready at the pharmacy. It's just a wierd thing to be recommended to have a hysteroctomy and then find out from a blood test that it's something completely different that is causing the heavy periods. Then to have been able to lose weight. I'm wondering what's going to happen once I'm on the medication. Only time will tell.

Thyroid affects your periods as well. You'll definately see the difference on the medication, trust me, sometimes you don't realize how bad you felt until you start to feel better.
