By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer Mike Stobbe, Ap Medical Writer – Fri Jul 17, 8:15 pm ET

ATLANTA – The last time the government embarked on a major vaccine campaign against a new swine flu, thousands filed claims contending they suffered side effects from the shots. [4,000 people were injured, paralyzed or died.] This time, the government has already taken steps to head that off.

Where is the incentive for adequate testing of their vaccines?

None now.

You ne to look at the history of vacine such as polio.I remmebr when it was the fear of every parents and was a real epidemic. As soon as a vacine was developed veryone was linig up to take it altho there were some bad batches at first, But now people think nothing of polio really. If people satrt dyng like flies ;people will decide the risk is worth it again. It will be like aids but no behavior can reallty stop you from getting it in modern society.

That is a very big IF. IF many people start dying, not IF the media makes a huge hullaballoo over a few people dying, kwim?

Heck, why even waste money on testing it now? Post market surveillance will be their testing... meaning, those who take it!

Life is risky. Considering the rate of adverse affects of pretty much every vaccine since the original polio vaccine to the adverse effects of the disease, I would take the vaccine 100% of the time. From PubMed the average introduction of the vaccine shows a drop of 90% infection rate of the disease, and drastic reduction in severity. Less then a half dozen adverse mild to moderate reactions that resulted from allergies (from last time I looked up the vaccine introductions to rural American communities in 1989-1991).

From what I have experienced it's mostly to prevent the manufacturers from being sued if some one gets the shot and still gets the disease, and these are not 100% things. If they do something that could be prevented or something done in malice, they should be sued and punished severely.
